Wie Enters U.S. Women's Open Qualifying
The USGA released information last week about the qualifying entrants for the U.S. Open; yesterday, they did the same for the U.S. Women's Open.
And Michelle Wie's name is among the entrants. This marks the first time since 2003 that Wie will go through qualifying (for the Women's Open - she tried a couple years ago for the men's open). Since that year, she's has received one exemption and been exempt from qualifying in other years based on performance.
No exemption from the USGA is coming this year, and Wie withdrew from the 2007 U.S. Women's Open. So it's back to qualifying.
Wie is exempt from local qualifying, so won't have to play until the sectional stage. Local qualifying takes place at 16 sites from May 9 through May 16. Seven sectional qualifying sites will be in play on June 9.
There are 60 golfers already qualified for the U.S. Women's Open, which takes place June 26-29 at Interlachen Country Club in Minnesota. The USGA has that list.

I'm surprised
Good for her - at least she's finally making an attempt to earn something in her career.
