Not With a Bang, But a Whimper

The Contructivist will have a full report over at his place, but the finish to the JLPGA's World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup was remarkable enough that I wanted to, well, remark upon it.

So Akiko Fukushima and Ji-Yai Shin finished regulation at 4-under par (Se Ri Pak was way back at 11-over ... sigh). They go into a playoff. The playoff goes one hole, two, three four ... great stuff. Then it gets to the fifth playoff hole.

And Fukushima three-putts. And then Shin four-putts. Fukushima wins.

What a way to end it. But as we've noted many times, you don't have to win heroically or with a slew of great shots. You just have to finish with fewer strokes taken than anyone else.

sorry for the lateness, dropped the Full Metal Archivist off at the airport for her solo visit to her folks--she'll be travelling with her mom to Kyoto and Okinawa while the girls and I will be defrosting all the great food she made for us before she left!  thankfully, it never crossed my mind to bring the laptop to the hotel so I could live-blog the finish. since when does a motor inn that hasn't updated its tvs in 3 decades have wi fi access, anyway?

do you get the feeling...
...that Fukushima and Shin would prefer people not mention the three and four putting ?  I know I would be kicking myself even with the win in hand. (right up until they put that big check and trophy in my hands) :-)

didn't Kyodo finesse it superbly?
almost makes me want to look up how they described Yokomine's yips when she lost to Shin earlier this season.
