Sunday Finishes
... and Open Thread ...
PGA Tour
Sergio Garcia defeated Paul Goydos on the first extra hole to win The Players Championship. After tying at 5-under in regulation, the two headed back to No. 17 to start the playoff. Goydos was short of the green in the water, then Garcia hit a perfect shot to seal the win.
European Tour
It was European Tour win No. 1 for Hennie Otto at the Italian Open. Six weeks ago Otto blew a 5-stroke lead entering the final round and lost in a playoff. This time, he blew a 4-stroke lead entering the final round, but regrouped to win by one over Oliver Wilson and two over Robert Karlsson.
Nationwide Tour
Colt Knost, coming off one of the great years in amateur golf history, came from six shots back to win the Fort Smith Classic, his first pro victory. Knost closed with a 65, finishing at 12-under 268, one stroke better than Darron Stiles.
LPGA Tour
Annika Sorenstam completed a dominating week at Kingsmill with a final-round 66 and a 7-stroke victory in the Michelob Ultra Open. Sorenstam finished at 19-under, well ahead of the quartet of Christina Kim, Jeong Jang, Karen Stupples and Allison Fouch.
Ladies European Tour
Lotta Wahlin recorded her first official victory on the Ladies European Tour at the Turkish Ladies Open, and she did so with a 12-stroke margin of victory.
