Off the Wires

A few golf items stumbled across during morning surfing ...

  • A good cry can do wonders. Um, that's what I hear, anyway. I, uh, wouldn't know. Yeah. But Brandt Snedeker does. Since his tears flowed at Augusta, fans have been flowing his way in much greater numbers than before.
  • The tournament director of the PGA Tour Mayakoba Classic admits he desperately wants Lorena Ochoa in his field. But Lorena says no thanks - she has no plans to ever play in a PGA Tour event.
  • Associated Press columnist Tim Dahlberg argues that the Olympics should say no to golf. And that golf shouldn't be asking to be part of the Olympics in the first place.
  • Some young whippersnapper with the Daily Illini, the student newspaper of the University of Illinoi Urbana-Champaign, takes as his thesis the following: golf is a dying game. But never fear, he has some suggestions for resuscitating the game. Some of them may have merit; his main one - switch all tournaments to match play - is ridiculous. But he gets off a few good lines along the way.
  • Michael Jordan will be building in The Bear's Club development in Jupiter, Fla., not far fro his buddy Tiger Woods' compound. Jordan paid $4.8 million for two lots.
  • Here's a review of the new book by Ian O'Connor, Arnie and Jack: Palmer, Nicklaus, and Golf's Greatest Rivalry.

Lorena and Dirty Harry
Looks like Lorena Ochoa is a Dirty Harry fan - in "Magnum Force", Harry Callahan's catch phrase was "a man's got to know his limitations."

Lorena seems to know hers.  Wise choice.

college boy...
...just read the Illini article.  I don't know about you, but I have been listening to jock sniffing radio talkshow hosts all week telling me how boring the Masters was.

These guys clearly have no understanding of how difficult a golf course Augusta National is by itself, and topped by 20-25 mph winds and gusts over 30 make it almost impossible to play.

Granted, if you don't know the game - it was pretty boring.  BUT - if you think it's that boring - why are you watching ????  Baseball can be boring.  Tennis can be boring. FOOTBALL can be boring - most Superbowls are over by halftime and the only reason a lot of people keep watching is to get drunk and watch the rest of the commercials.

They also completely ignore the first three rounds - probably because they hear cliches like "The Masters doesn't start until the back nine on Sunday" and believe all that drivel.

I'm really tired of ignorant, short sighted, ESPN addicted jock sniffers trying to tell everybody how their sport is bad and needs to change.
