Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Sometimes a Lob is a Flop

Even when Phil Mickelson is the one hitting it. Phil just had to hit lob wedge even though his ball was comfortably on the green (every Augusta member cringed when contact was made) because putting it would have required running the ball through a lot of fringe to account for the break.

Phil's lob from the putting surface came up way short, however. But then he rolled in a big-breaking putt of about 12 feet to save par. Ian Baker-Finch pointed out it counts as a two-putt.

Hell, it makes ME cringe...
...to see it, and the closest I'll ever come to Augusta National is driving through town on I-20.

it's amazing
I can barely imagine being able to nip a wedge that cleanly - much less have the cojones to play a shot like that on the greens at Augusta.

There have been a few times when a pro has tried that and taken a nice chunk out of a green - never at Augusta, mind you.

How about the wedge Mickelson played into the green at 18 ?  What imagination and touch.  But he's pretty much played himself out of contention.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
