Daly DQ'd, Two Others Also Out As A Result

Another day, another John Daly incident.

Daly was supposed to tee off in the Arnold Palmer Invitational pro-am at 8:40 this morning local time. He didn't show up, believing that his tee time was 9:47.

There's a rule on the PGA Tour, and it applies to everyone (well, except Phil): No-show for the pro-am, and you can't play the tournament.

So John Daly was disqualified today from the Palmer.

And so where Ryuji Imada and Nick O'Hern. "Unfortunately, we got caught up in John's snowball effect," said O'Hern, noting "this is a tough one to take."

O'Hern and Imada weren't at the course because they believed they were alternates for the afternoon portion of the pro-am. But when Daly no-showed, the Tour went looking for O'Hern and Imada and couldn't find them, and so they got DQ'd, too. (I can't tell from the article linked above whether Imada and O'Hern were mistaken in believing they were afternoon alternates - if so, then they certainly bear some of the blame themselves - or whether something else was at play.)

Daly's no-show appears to be the result of a mix-up: Daly called the course to ask for his tee time and was told 9:47 - his first-round tee time on Thursday. What Daly was trying to get, however, was his pro-am tee time, which was 8:40 today. He was en route to the course for what he thought was the correct pro-am tee time when he was contacted with the news he'd been disqualified.

dumb dumb dumb...and one more for Daly...DUMB
Who the heck came up with this 1-3-5 and 2-4-6 idea and who assigns the numbers ???

Where is this guy who answered the phone and supposedly gave Daly the wrong tee time ?

Why does the PGA Tour have these idiotic "zero tolerance" type of rules when common sense would say TAKE CARE OF THE FRIGGIN' AMATEURS WHO ARE PAYING BIG BUCKS TO PLAY WITH A PRO ??  Slide the guy in the slot who is there and deal with the fallout later.

There is no reason to punish Nick O and Imada for the fallout around Daly and/or this person who allegedly gave him the wrong tee time ??

Then again - there is no reason these guys who make millions of dollars can't show up to their own policy board meetings.

yeesh
the Tour is more proactive about missing a pro-am tee time than slow play!

naturally
they know that the bucks from the pro-am's are real.  slow play only seems to tick off a few players and barely affects the player being fined (as it stands now)

it's all about the benjamins
