Off the Wires

In the news tonight ...

  • Kelly Tilghman's "lynched in a back alley" reference to Tiger Woods is drawing calls for her firing or suspension. The comment was moronic and deeply offensive, but I haven't written anything about it myself because considering what would be the appropriate reaction makes my head hurt. Tilghman says she's apologized directly to Tiger.
  • Roger Clemens, twice a member of the winning pro-am team, has withdrawn from the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. He's due for some B12 shots on those days.
  • New courses and a Wednesday start at the Hope next week have caused nine of the players in Hawaii for the Mercedes-Benz Classic to skip this week's Sony Open.
  • And Ernie Els will be skipping the WGC Accenture World Match Play Championship.
  • Phil Mickelson, however, will be playing the FBR Open in Scottsdale, and the opportunity to caddie for him in a practice round is up for auction.
  • Tiger Woods makes $274,000 a day, and in December averaged $3 every second. Those and other interesting golf numbers here.
  • Japan's Ryo Ishikawa won a Japan Tour tournament last year at age 15. Now 16, he's turning pro.
  • Nike Golf has signed Suzann Pettersen. Watch out, Suzann. Michelle Wie and Grace Park signed with Nike, and look what happened to them.

is that really necessary ?
Stu - just a request - pull the link to the Yahoo article on Tilghman.  This guy Johnson is a media whore who admits in the article that he did not even hear the comment.

Not only does he take a cheap shot at Tilghman, he attempts to link her words to her attendance at Duke University.  Apparently, Johnson didn't get the word that the lacrosse team was exhonerated while the politically driven publicity hound DA and the two hookers were found "guilty".  And don't forget the foolish race baters, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who offered the hookers full college scholarships...for what ?  for lying. Brilliant !

This "article" is beneath the standards of Waggle Room.

thanks
Appreciate you removing the link to the other article.  What he wrote was MUCH more offensive and ignorant than Tilghman's slip of the tongue.

Tilghman may be awful in that job, and she may be a buzz killer (as this incident illustrates) - but she is NOT a racist - but the race mongers in the media are just licking their chops for any slip that can help them line their pockets.

There is no doubt that the word "lynch" has terrible racial connotations, but the word does not NECESSARILY imply race.

Interestingly enough, on Johnson's blog site, he brags about how compassionate and forgiving he is.  I think he owes Tilghman an apology.
