Four In A Row
The PGA Tour's media notes this week remind us that four players in PGA Tour history have won the same tournament four consecutive times:
- Young Tom Morris, British Open
- Walter Hagen, PGA Championship
- Gene Sarazen, Miami Open
- Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer Invitational
(The Tour retroactively recognizes majors from pre-PGA Tour times as PGA Tour events, so yes, Young Tom's wins nearly 140 years ago are considered PGA Tour victories.)
Now, you probably know that Tiger Woods has won the Buick Invitational three consecutive years. So Woods, who is already on the list, is trying to get his name on that 4-in-a-row list once again.
But how good is this guy? Not only is he one of just four to win four in a row, but in 2008 he has three opportunities to do it again. There's the Buick Invitational. And after that, he'll go for four in a row at the WGC CA Championship. And after that he'll go for four in a row at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.
