Artificial Hips Be Damned: Back-to-Back Aces
"Take it hip to hip rocket through the wilderness" - B-52s
One of the rarest feats in golf: back-to-back aces for two members of the same group on the same hole.
It happened in England, on Hole 24 of the 27-hole Allerton Golf Club in Leeds. First 75-year-old June Wiener aced the 152-yard hole, then 61-year-old playing partner Sue Baskind stepped up and did the same thing.
"We were told the odds were a million to one -- I wish I'd had a pound on it," said Wiener, whose two artificial hips appear not to have hampered her golf swing.
Whose two artificial hips appear not to have hampered her golf swing. Now that's a great sentence.
A bookmaker put the odds at a million-to-one.
But what are the odds that the two people making the consecutive aces would be 75 and 61 years of age, that it would happen on the 24th hole, that one of them would have two artificial hips and be named "Wiener"? Huh, what are the odds of that? Billions to one.
