Man Records His 51st Career Hole-In-One ... Really
A fellow named Mancil Davis scored a hole-in-one on Monday at The Woodlands Country Club north of Houston. It was the 51st ace of his career.
Fifty-one aces? I know what you're thinking: "Yeah, right."
But I checked the Houston Chronicle and sure enough found the hole-in-one notice in the sports section:
OK, I just made up that hole-in-one notice. Fact is, Mancil's ace - like many of his previous 50 - came with impeccable witnesses. He was playing in a celebrity golf tournament with plenty of people watching.
And Davis himself is a longtime member of the PGA of America. He was once the director of golf at The Woodlands, former home of the PGA Tour Houston Open. He's been a PGA member since 1974.
Some fun facts about the fellow they call the "King of Aces":
- His first ace came at age 11
- He made 8 aces in 1967 alone, including three in one 5-day period
- His 51 career aces is the recognized world record
- He also has 10 career double-eagles, which is also the recognized world record
- He made at least one hole-in-one every year from 1967 through 1987
- His longest ace was 379 yards
