The Next Generation of Great Golfers Will Come From China
TaylorMade and the China Golf Association announce a deal:
Under the three-year deal, Taylormade, a subsidiary of Adidas , will provide equipment, apparel and make a "major financial investment" in supporting young Chinese golfers.
"This is a major milestone in the history of the game in this country," Cui Dalin, China's assistant minister of sport, told a news conference.
"The standard of the game has risen spectacularly in the last few years and I believe Chinese golf is ready to move to the next stage to take off."
So why will the next generation of great golfers come from China? Here are the populations of the countries most associated with producing great golfers:
- Australia: 20,090,437
- South Africa: 44,344,136
- South Korea: 48,846,823
- United Kingdom: 60,441,457
- Japan: 127,417,244
- United States: 295,734,134
The population of China? 1,306,313,812. That's 1.3 billion, nearly five times more than America, 65 times more than Australia.
If China decides to focus on developing golfers, then develop golfers she shall.
