Statement from Jenna Daniels on Todd McCorkle/Georgia Situation

If you've been following the situation at the University of Georgia - where highly successful women's golf coach Todd McCorkle resigned following allegations by some of his players of improper sexual comments and conduct - then you know that McCorkle's wife is someone of note herself.

Jenna Daniels is an LPGA Tour member, and her name has been brought up in some of the news reports on the Georgia situation because she was a member of McCorkle's national championship team at the University of Arizona in 2000.

Daniels' first public comments on her husband's situation came today in a statement released by her agent. Here is that statement:

I would like to address some of the recent media reports. Although I would like to keep our relationship private, I resent the questions about the integrity of my relationship with Todd and I am disappointed in the allegations against his integrity as a coach. He is one of the premier coaches in the country and he has been a positive influence in the lives of the golfers that he has coached. Todd is a loving and kind husband who has an incredible passion to coach the game of golf. I love my husband and I will stand by him and continue to give him all the support he needs as we face this together. I look forward to getting back out on the course to play the game I love. - Jenna Daniels

As I said when I first read about this story, it's wrong to blow incidents like this of proportion without a more complete investigation of the facts. Lot's of golf writers, bloggers and traditional media types immediately pegged McCorkle as an out-of-control pervert who sexually harassed his team, however we don't know the full story. It's possible that there could be certain venomous individuals on the team (or certain publicity hungry fathers of team members) who had an agenda ... or an issue with this coach... and decided to parlay minor issues and lapses in judgment, into a full fledged sexual harassment case. Many facts in this case have not yet been made public, thus it's simply wrong to rush a conclusion.
