Oosthuizen Retains Africa Open Title
Louis Oosthuizen repeated as the Africa Open champion yesterday when he edged Tjaart van der Walt on the penultimate hole of the tournament. Tied going to the tee on the 17th hole, the former Open Championship winner sank a 35-foot putt for birdie while van der Walt struggled to a bogey, effectively settling matters.
Until that point, it had been a neck and neck affair: Oosthuizen and Van der Walt both carded 69 in the first round. The next day Oosthuizen shot a 62 but couldn't quite shake his fellow South African who shot and 64. Van der Walt reciprovated the next day, finishing after 65 strokes while Oosthuizen took a 67 in the third round to enter the final round tied.
For van der Waalt, it was another case of "close but no cigar." In his fifteen year career, he has yet to win, but has been runner up nine times.
