Friday Fun: Elin Paves the Way, Lucas Takes a Tumble
Today marks the first installment of Friday Fun for 2012 - a segment where I discuss a few timely items from the world of golf and provide my own personal badspin on each item. Looks like today's stories include Tiger's ex-wife and what used to be a really, REALLY big house, another PGA TOUR star gets injured doing something while on vacation, and one European golfer daddy makes his run at the Ryder Cup team.
Looks like Tiger's ex is more than willing to put the past behind her as she recently took a few bulldozers to the $12 million estate she purchased after settling her divorce from Woods. According to GolfTalkCentral's Ryan Ballengee (Hi Ryan!), "Nordegren obtained a permit to tear down the 17,000-square-foot home, located in the Seminole Landing development near North Palm Beach". Chances that the land will be used for additional real estate units in the near future? Pretty low. Chances that a new Perkins' Restaurant with a beautiful ocean view will be built? Even lower. Elin is likely to renovate and/or rebuild the home. I think I know a guy that could help.
Lucas Glover Hurts Himself- What is with PGA TOUR players hurting themselves on vacation? Don't these people know that vacation is meant for rest and relaxation, and preferably not dangerous outdoor activities like scuba-diving amongst coral or paddle boarding? Almost a year to the day, fellow competitor Geoff Ogilvy sliced his damn finger on coral while in Hawaii, causing him to withdraw from the Tournament of Champions thanks to 12-stitches. Apparently Glover didn't learn much from Geoff's experience because Mr. Hockey Beard smashed his knee and sprained a ligament. These player live such rough lives.
New Daddy Wants to Be on the Team, Jose!- As the 2012 Ryder Cup in Chicago (woot!) takes place later this season, nothing is going to keep European golfer Jamie Donaldson from giving his to make the Euro team... not even the birth of his first child. According to Anthony Woolford for Wales Online, Donaldson and his girlfriend Kat welcomed their first son together in March. But even the stresses of newfound fatherhood can't keep Donaldson from working towards his goal of playing in the Ryder Cup, and he has a pretty damn good shot at making Jose Maria Olazabal's squad in September. And what does Mommy think of Daddy's work schedule?
