Friday Fun: Day Expecting First Child; Tiger Book Tame

Photo

This week's Friday Fun post focuses on a new Tiger book as well as a new addition to the Day family. Finally, I'll quickly comment on a new proposal that might flood the PGA TOUR with even more young talent in the near future.

Star-divide

Tiger Book Won't Be a 'Tell-All' - Just when you thought we might get a little more insight on the truth to what happened on Thanksgiving night two years ago, Jamie Diaz had to spoil it for everyone. Diaz is the co-author (along with hank Haney) of the upcoming book "The Big Miss - My Years Coaching Tiger Woods" which is set to be released in March 2012. According to Diaz, while Haney certainly shared many insightful personal stories about Woods and his extracirricular activities, this book will focus more on the relationship between Haney and Woods instead of that between Woods and... well... you know.

This is probably a pretty smart move by Haney, in all honesty, as suggesting he knew anything about Woods' behavior prior to his car accident may have painted Haney in a bad light. As Diaz explains:

"Hank is a very sensitive guy who was always very tuned to the way he was portrayed as Tiger's coach. I think he wanted to have his own voice as what he knows to be the truth. And I'll say this, from my part, he couldn't have been more cooperative and he couldn't have tried harder."

New System May Prompt Amateurs to Turn Pro Early - According to Golf Channel's Ryan Ballengee, the PGA TOUR has recently proposed a three-event system that will help amateurs and collegiate players to essentially bypass Q-School en route to earning their TOUR card. Ballengee writes:

The field for the series would consist of the top 75 players on the Nationwide Tour money list and the first 75 PGA Tour players who fail to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. The field would be seeded based upon earnings on their respective tours and players would then earn points based upon their results in the series. The top 50 finishers in the series would earn PGA Tour cards for the following season.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me, especially since this proposal only offers an invitation to collegiate and amateur players to turn pro and not a exemption into the series. However, this may also spell the beginning of the end for the Nationwide Tour in the near future as more collegiate players will undoubtedly take advantage of this invitation to limit their time on the Nationwide.

Jason Day & Wife Ellie Expecting - Finally, PGA TOUR star Jason Day and his wife, Ellie, have announced that they are expecting their first child. Day, 24, learned of his future as a new father on his birthday in November. The couple have been married since October 2009 and currently live in Ohio.

Congratulations to the Days !!

But what will the daschunds think ? :-D

“Insight” – what garbage. You want sewage – be a man and admit it. Haney and Woods were not frat boys running around together. Haney wasn’t following him around 24/7. They were together for coaching and tournaments. They both said as much when they were coach and student.

Not sure I see a problem with players who have every intention of turning pro clearing out of the amateur ranks a few months early. I also don’t think it’s going to cause an mass evacuation of the amateur and collegiate level. A couple of seniors might leave college early – maybe 10 or 12 underclassmen who think they have the game will go each year, but golf isn’t a mad race to turn pro. Look at Europe, where this has been the way things have worked for decades. We don’t see huge numbers of guys hitting the pro game year after year. In fact, we see more International players taking up American college golf scholarships than turning pro.

Who is this person you dislike so much ?
