Lexi Thompson aces LPGA Q-school
Lexi Thompson lapped the field and then some in capturing medalist honors by 10 strokes in this week's first stage of LPGA Tour qualifying school. The 16-year-old golfing whiz kid fired a whopping 23-under 265 (66, 66, 66, 67) to leave no doubt Friday that the 2010 U.S. Curtis Cup hero was serious about earning tour membership.
Amateur Mitsuki Katahira finished at 13-under and was Thompson’s nearest competitor.
Thompson, who flew directly from last week’s Evian Masters to LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., to headline the 72-hole initial leg of Q-school, put on an impressive display in the first phase of trying to win her tour card. The big-hitting Floridian, who convinced tour commissioner Mike Whan to waive the age requirement and let her compete in the qualifying contests, has played tour events with sponsor exemptions and earned more than $300,000 in professional tournaments last year.
Thompson reportedly chose not to speak with the media during the competition, but her father said she was completely focused on playing her game.
"I didn't want a bunch of hype with the Q-school," Thompson’s father Scott Thompson told the Daytona Beach News Journal Friday. "Just so that she could sit there and focus on the Q-school, because we get a lot of media attention everywhere we go, and sometimes it's a little much. So this was kind of to just let her relax and play a tournament, and not have to answer all the questions. [Today] I'm going to step aside [and let her be interviewed]."
Should Thompson cruise through the next two qualifying stages as easily as she did this week, it’s safe to say that the LPGA will have a 17-year-old rookie teeing it up in as many 2012 tourneys as she wishes to enter.

For now, it appeared that the swing changes Thompson had been working on were doing the trick.
"It's getting good again," the elder Thompson, who also caddied for his daughter this week, said. "We didn't play good from February to June, and then she went through a pretty big swing change.
"She's playing good now," said Lexi’s dad.
The top 50 of the 150 competitors (and ties) who played this week on LPGA International’s Champions Course will advance to Stage II of Q-school at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla., from September 27-September 30.
After that, the lowest 70 scores and ties from Stage II will head to the final qualifying event. That 90-hole contest on LPGA International’s Champions and Legends courses will take place November 30-December 4.
Top finishers in the final stage will earn their 2012 LPGA cards, with all others who make the cut achieving LPGA Futures Tour status.

The first of a long, arduous and for most of us, boring journey.
I’ll start getting enthusiastic in the last of the many stages of LPGA Tour School.
In the meantime – there is an LPGA Major tournament being played right now. So what do we have on the front page of WR? Tiger, Rory and a post on some TV show faking the footage of an amateur event in Long Island.
Fair enough on the Tiger – Rory stuff, but really Charles and Emily, especially you Emily, where is the post on the Women’s British Open? Emily, you are the one that bangs on about women being hard done by in the golf world and you haven’t the time to write a post on the Women playing their last major of the year.
No Dogs, No Women, No Post. No better than those you revile.
And yes, the claws are out. Meow!!!!!!!

That's Cambo Wendy
He’s one of my “work” moggies helping me with a putting lesson. He was born at Green Fairways and is my assistant pro. Named after the one and only Cambo because of his colour and because he never shuts up. One very cool cat!

Whats his handicap Chip?.........
And your right womens golf need the media to get with it.Caroline Masson is a bloody good story-now if Alexis Thompson was leading the Womens British Open after three days something tells me it would be a pretty big deal-no?
Held her nerve pretty well so far.

What annoys me about Emily
is that she rarely answers questions some of us might have. Anyone can copy and paste tabloid stuff about Woods and co. I want to hear more about the golf, but Emily should be replying to what Chip has said above. What do you think Emily ?
I agree with Easingwold and Chip...

Lexi Thompson aces LPGA Q-school

The week before it was four articles on Brittany Lincicome’s golf clubs, Before that it was four pieces on Michelle Wie defending her decision to complete her degree. Before that it was four pieces on Cheyenne Woods at the U.S. Publinks. When she lost the Publinks was no longer an event worthy of round by round coverage.
These events all receive more coverage on Waggleroom than the Women’s U.S. Open, Evian Masters, and the Women’s British Open. Instead of second round coverage of the WBO before checking out for the weekend, we get a fourth piece on Lexi Thompson in the first of three stages of LPGA Q-school. A interesting story on an excellent performance but was there anything else going on in women’s golf this week? (Bueller, Bueller…)Lexi Thompson earning her tour card is an interesting story among several in women’s golf. You know who has earned her tour card already? That would be the 21 year old college junior earning her tour card in four rounds of golf by winning the Women’s U.S. Open. Yani Tseng, playing in the final pairing, could win her 5th major tomorrow. You’re more impressed with the golfer with wins at the Canadian Open and the Tres Marias on her resume. Instead of covering “whose next,” Waggleroom needs to cover more of “whose winning.” I guess that’s Chip’s job.
Sometimes I have posted things on a Euro event.
Chip is doing a lot more, running the picks we do ( nice one Chip ) and I don’t mind doing it, it is nice to hear other bloggers viewpoints on where they are in the world. But as a main writer, Emily has a ceratin responsibility along with Charles and Adam. Now, if it is Charles and Adam who report the tournaments, fine. Emily could do the ladies tournaments, like Chip and Diane, I’d like to hear Emily’s take on the ladies. It doesn’t take long to comment here, I don’t care how busy the writers are ( I’m as busy as anyone ) it takes 30 minutes a day . It would be better if Emily posted on here too, we might even get to know her a little and like her comments.
