Wind no longer the top story at The Honda

I remember players in several sports being prepared for this occassion while they had to play - but I've never seen it actually happen.

Brandt Snedeker pulled out of the Honda Classic earlier today when his wife went into labor to deliver their first child.  The call came in and he was out the gate.

So on a day when scores are going through the roof thanks to winds blowing 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40, there will be a celebration pretty soon.

Congratulations to the Snedekers !

(and to the rest of you guys - sorry - it's not supposed to be any better tomorrow, so keep it low !)

WOW what a fricken day today was.

Even the hospitality tents took a beating this afternoon. Chicken Wings and Chinette flying everywhere. I spent a little time with Veej and Kuch earlier tonight. Veej said, " Today was in his top 3 of windy conditions to play in." Kuch said, " I think I got wind burn today, but I’ll take my 1 under round in these conditions": Personaly I witnessed several hats blowing randomly down a few fairways like tumbleweeds, I even saw one in the water on 17. LOL One thing i didn’t see was Lerner running around with a microphone at the range. hmmmm Windy conditions + hair piece = stay indoors. Who knows. lolol Tomorrow doesn’t look much better wind wise but sat and Sunday will show some improvement. Good Times so far. More tomorrow.

Great to see how they cope with the wind.

I never mind the wind myself. I know it usually means shooting 5 or 6 shots over what one normally does, but I love the challenge of it.

Pretty sure your course doesn’t have water like they have at PGA National – but does your course have more than a burn winding through some of the holes ? A pond or lake ?

Obviously my course is no Bear Trap

but a stream cuts through 7 holes. Narrow fairways at 6,700 yards. It’s tough enough for me :)

LOL easing, touche'

take that Court. I need to write a fan post about today. Still can’t seem to kick this damn Flu.Kicking my dang backside it is. Anyway I had an interesting day with a good story to tell from the Honda and hopefully I have the time and energy in the morning to put it up. Great hole-out by Overton today and the other Rory, (Sabatini) shot lights out in the wind today. From what I saw he played the ‘low spinner’ that Stub was talking about earlier today. Spot On he was.

shot the lights out AND kept that hat on his head ! Take your pick which one is more impressive.

Wasn’t expecting a bear trap over at Eas’s place – just curious about his water hazards.

Sorry you’re not past the flu – I hear deviled eggs are good for it !

Lumpy didn't look too good jumpin

I know he missed the cut. Has he been injured or anything ? He looked beat.

by Easingwold on Mar 5, 2011 4:41 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah to bad about Lumpy's poor performance

73-76 and done. No injuries that I am aware of. In the winter of 09 he fell while ice fishing and injured an elbow, wrist and knee, but i’m pretty sure he is over those. I am stil hopeful he finishes the year in the top-75. Good guy and a great Dad and husband and fun to be around.

Should be a good finish at the Honda this weekend.

The winds are a factoer again today

Blowing at 20-25 for most of the day. Hopefully tomorrows forecast is correct and they calm down to less than 15 mph

These guys are going to be worn out by the end of the day tomorrow. Four days in heavy, swirling winds. They’re going to want a week off to recover mentally.

Feeling any better this morning, pro ?

by courtgolf on Mar 5, 2011 12:31 PM EST up reply actions

Faldo used to say a week in the winds

was tough because they got used to shortening their swings. If it was calm the next week, they had a job getting the swing back to normal.

by Easingwold on Mar 5, 2011 1:40 PM EST up reply actions

yeah – Duval said the same thing – that was why he stopped playing in Hawaii. Said it took him a month to get his swing back.

Might be a good reason

why so many top pros miss out Hawaii

A bit better today.

Went to bed early,(for me) last night. Girlfriend arrived at the course last night and brought me some antibiotics. I think I’ll keep her. :o)

I hear ya Easing

I do take 10 weeks off a year though. After 11 years on the road now, I don’t dare slow down or I’ll probably get real old real fast. After all they do call Florida, the Lords waiting room. lol

better add more reasons – “drug mule” might not be the most flattering reason to keep her around. :-D

Some pal you are

Failed to convince Veej to turn up today – did he know he was on your bench? – lol!

by WendyUK on Mar 4, 2011 10:28 AM EST up reply actions

lmao, Wendy

And good thing he was on my bench. hahahaha. Ok Ok Ok, I did tell Veej that he was on my fantasy golf team this week, and no I didn’t tell him he was on the bench. Some things are better off left alone.

The wind is up today, blowing at around 20 mph with gust to 25. Sunny and beautifull at 72 degrees currently. I’m working indoors today in our logistics center, 3 TV’s, 4 cell phones and 4 laptops. Just getting over the FLU, so I’m not minding the indoor gig at all. I was down on the range this morning watching Kuch, Immelman, Overton, Kelly and Tommy two Gloves hit balls. Talked with Tommy for a few. Nice guy with a thick accent and great attitude. Hopefully I can sneak out a little later this afternon and catch Mcllroy play a few holes. I have 4 guest here from Ireland that came over to follow him around and they want me to hang with them if I get a chance, but they do understand that I am working. With a little Luck O the Irish and some hard work by one of my assistant’s Lucile, my guest will get a chance to meet Rory after his round today. Hopefully he will have a good day and that will make us all happy. I gotta scoot. I’ll try to post more later.

Personally, I hope the wind stays up...20-25 mph is

just a gentle breeze….Let those Wossies learn how to hit the low punch shot…I learned that when I was 12 years old….They can watch Hogan play on film and learn it quick….The wind there , is the only thing that makes that course tough….These guys are supposed to be PROS>>>let them play like they are….STUB

Low punch shots are great if you get to play shots that run out – this course has a lot of forced carries over a lot of water – or have water right behind greens. Stopping a low runner is tough when you’re hitting mid or long irons knowing you can’t go through the green.

Are vegetarians allowed to have butterflies in their stomach?

by courtgolf on Mar 4, 2011 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

NOPE, NOPE you can hit the shot and not have it run out...and remember, the

course is a bit soft now, so run is down to zilch…;you can hit a punch with the driver, just turn the face down a bit….Will let you keep it in the fairway too…I re-eterate…Their Pro’s…let them play lie it….Blow wind, Blow…..STUB

A proper punch shot hits the green and checks on the 2nd bounce.

Wind is great…you don’t get a birdie feast, but it separates the good players from the very good players.

Damm right Easy...glad ya been doing

the home work….Jist keep saying to yourself….it’s a short time to August, It’s a short time to August….Beat her down, Beat her down….and remember to eat lots a bangers the morning of the match with a half pint….That should get ya in the right frame of mind….Just hope she doesn’t have any of them yeller-green balls left to play with….I hope the wind is blowing when the match gets played….would actually be funny to see Wendy get blowed over…hahaha…STUB

Lee Westwood

Kudos to Westwood’s orthodontist! He looks great!!! Can’t wait to see him smiling holding up the trophy on Sunday afternoon

Finding Jerry Kelly's ball...

…up in a palm tree…using a $10,000 camera lense ! This is fascinating…but it has certainly taken longer than 5 minutes – where’s the official ?

Are vegetarians allowed to have butterflies in their stomach?

by courtgolf on Mar 5, 2011 2:51 PM EST reply actions

It was interminable

I can understand why he was so keen, with his position at the time, but he shouldn’t have been allowed so long.

by WendyUK on Mar 5, 2011 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

Is there some rule that the 5 minute time is halted until they identify it ?

In ’92 Faldo had to climb a tree, that must have taken more than 5 minutes. Quiros the same a few weeks ago. They ask for an official ruling, do they not ?
