Creative Cross-Training for Junior Golf - Harmon Academy in Dubai
Just watched a pretty interesting video produced by CNN about junior golf at the Harmon Academy in Dubai. They are teaching skills from other sports in order to build up the muscles for a golf swing...and...I assume...to make sure the kids don't get bored just swinging a golf club.
The video shows them hitting balls off of a Tee Ball tee (baseball skill), throwing at a target, lots of balance games and drills...and on and on. They say that once you get past the age of 16 it is very difficult to develop a lot of speed for the golf swing if you don't already have the muscle skills.
However, it seems like even us "old farts" could use these same techniques to either learn some of the skill the kids get, or re-awaken them from our youth.
Butch Harmon III (son of Tiger's former coach) is the interviewee.
