Monday Morning Quarterbacking...and golfing

Tommy dropped back a bit, but look who made a move on Sunday, none other than Vijay Singh!!!  I always have a problem with guys in their 40's being referred to as old.  My plan is to watch the last round while I'm doing my bi-monthly platelet donation.  The  chair has a little over head TV monitor.  If your a blood donor you may be familiar with platelet donation (Apheresis).  It's similiar to whole blood donation except your red cells are returned to you.  Platelets (white cells) are vital for transfusion to patients with a surpressed immune system, like those undergoing KEMO therapy.  They are also infused into premature babies.  Please consider it.  That's the end of my pitch.  Back to the golf.  The third round was completed and most of the players are in different places of the fourth on the back nine.  Several have finished the last round.  Singh has posted -16.  I can't imagine him winning with that, but he could which would be a very strange ending.

That’s interesting. I didn’t know they return the red cells. Does that mean even people who can’t donate whole blood can donate plateles ? (platelets aren’t white cells)

Nah – Vijay was right to just finish. He would have to warm up his back in more chilly weather for one hole in a tournament he’s not going to win – and at this point in his career – second is still the first loser. Too many guys tied or ahead with too many birdie holes left to play.

I've been donating platelets for 5 years and I always thought they were white cells...

As far as your question about donating platelets if you can’t donate whole blood….I don’t know. You’re right about Singh, but a Singh win sure would have complicated the broadcast.

by pingforever on Feb 7, 2011 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

There are red cells, white cells, and platelets. Platelets do the clotting.

Why would a Singh win complicate the broadcast ? We’ve seen tournaments where the winner finishes several groups ahead of the last group. What could have been bad is Singh in a tie for the lead…after he had left town. :-D

Being in your 40's isn't old

but in golf terms it is for professionals on tour.

Talk about "flying under the radar"!

Mark Wilson certainly isn’t a househild name. You can be sure his banker knows who he is! Twice a winner in 5 tournaments. The very picture of a fast start. What happened to Haas? The preemptive favorite, Phil Mickelson? His play illustrates why he was never able to over take a failing Tiger Woods. Rickie Fowler? He’s getting more attention for his attire than his golf. How long can he live off that play-off loss in the Fall Series last year. There’s no question he’s a significant talent and brings some pizzaz to the game. But it would not surprise me if Fowler has made more money this year off endorsements than Wilson has made in prize money…. Often times, it’s the sizzle not the steak… On to Pebble Beach….

good point – Fowler does have that pizza delivery boy look to him – oh wait – you said he brings pizzaz – not pizzas. Sorry. :-)

Fowler is the to the PGA tour

LOL @ easing kinda true in a way

But I have yet to see Fowler in any alleged rules violation of any sort.

....and Wie has been on the scene for a lot longer than Fowler.

And Rory is the future of the Euro Tour with his two “monster wins”….

Don’t worry about bad habits, Easingwold can handle it! He doesn’t get all bent out of shape when his opinions are questioned or I take a poke at him.

True enough

The more I find out, the less I know.

Just highlighting the difference between Mcllroy

who has won and Fowler, who still wears his junior golf gear at the age of 22.

by Easingwold on Feb 8, 2011 4:14 AM EST up reply actions

Easy...I don't know about the Jr. gear stuff....I thought he looked like an Orange Pop-cycle

for those that arn’t familiar with them…It’s frozen slush on a stick….jis sayin….One thing in it’s favor tho….If he was in the woods hunting, no one would mistake him for the deer….STUB

even OK State doesn’t wear orange on orange with orange shoes and orange helmets. once a year, they wear orange on orange with their white shoes and white helmets – but never orange on orange on orange on orange.

which means that the state of Florida Orange Growers need to sponsor his Sunday outfit.

It doesn't really matter what a player wears

Fowler has game and if he wants to wear Pink Sansabelts with big bell bottoms and a Humphrey Bogart Fedora, WHO CARES.

Back when I was looping in the very early 70’s we had to wear double sunglasses just to block the glare from the players loud clothes.

lol

Doug Saunders was a snappy dresser. I couldn’t believe how many pairs of golf shoes he has. I accually don’t mind Fowler’s clothes, but the hat has got to go. It looks like someone has pulled it down over his ears like some cartoon :)

by Easingwold on Feb 9, 2011 11:56 AM EST up reply actions

and take a chance on getting hat hair on his perfectly girlish locks ? perish the thought. nope – we’re stuck with the gang hat style at least until he starts shaving. :-)

How very decent of you both

not to mention someone else who doesn’t want hat hair. Still, if he did wear a hat, I’m sure it would be far, far more attractive than Fowler’s silly hat.

by WendyUK on Feb 9, 2011 1:55 PM EST up reply actions

lol – if Bad Bobby Rock were offered a good contract to wear a hat – he’d wear a hat.

Phil Mickelson wasn’t a hat guy until he turned pro and they paid him.

Jesper Parnevik wasn’t a hat guy either until they started paying him. He didn’t like the bill in his eyes, so he started flipping it up and it became his trademark.

Players not as good as Rock are paid to wear a hat.

Rock isn’t signed up as a full staff player. He prefers his own choice of manufacturers. I guess if he wanted to wear a hat, he would.

by Easingwold on Feb 9, 2011 3:05 PM EST up reply actions

maybe he should hook up with Ryan Moore – they could bring ties back into style on the golf course. :-D

I was trying to remember who didn’t go the sponsorship route. Thanks. Played today in would you believe a re- sheduled Christmas competition. Booze are the prizes. Shot 78, so I might get a bottle…cheers.

Thanks you two

But no reductions until April here. Kind of annoying too…playing long this time of year. 6,500 seemed more like 6,700. I’m not hitting the driver much at your place Wendy…I know you want me to :)
