Sunday, Moving Day????

So let's see here.  The cut was made late yesterday, and a few players started their third round... I'm a bit out of sync with the frost delays.  I wonder why they didn't opt for a three round tournament finishing on Sunday... No matter.  Thanks to the much maligned Golf Channel we'll get to see the final round on Monday.  Well, we retired follks will.  Certainly, the bloom is off the rose at #16.  Won't be much hootin' n 'n hollerin' on Monday morning....  What's the buzz for today?  There sits Tommy "Big Break", "Two Gloves" Gainey at the top.  As much as it would be a story on Monday(?) I don't think Tommy can hold on for another two days.  He's got some hot players on this heels: Wilson (Mark not Dean) a recent winner in Hawaii.  Haas, in a playoff two weeks ago.  Then there's favorite, Phil Mickelson, coming off a strong performance last week at Torrey Pines AND golf's new "anointed one" Rickie Fowler, right there with Phil, 4 back.... It would be more intriguing and exciting if this was last round.  As it is, we won't get to the real suspense until sometime Monday morning. Sadly, Jhonattan Vegas won't be playing on the half-weekend.  I saw a brief interview and heard the interviewer say, "See you at Riviera", so I'm assuming he going to get some well deserved rest next week.  Also going home, Anthony Kim.  Last week's winner Bubba Watson made the cut, but at 10 back he won't be a factor...at least he wouldn't be on a regular week.  But with two more rounds, he may indeed climb up the leaderboard, but to be in contention on Monday would be a tall order.  As for me, I have 6" of snow on top of 3" of ice to get off my driveway....

It's all out of synch, Ping

Makes it pretty difficult to see who is challenging & pretty frustrating for the players and viewers alike. I don’t think Gainey can hang on either.

Can’t you just hunker down and leave that snow alone?

The plan is to get as far as they can today – they are going to play the third round (starting an hour late) – then jump right into the fourth round without re-pairing – so we’ll see these same groups all the way through the finish. What’s interesting is that someone well back after the second round could get hot and actually finish today with the lead and eventually win…but the winner probably won’t be decided until however many holes they have left to play on Monday.

Looking at the scoreboard, it looks like they are teeing off on 1 and 10 for the third round with the leaders going off on 10 to start their round. Maybe they’re timing it for TV ?

Phil’s doing his part to take the exciitement out of things – his double bogey at 17 just put him 7 shots behind Gainey, and JB Holmes is now 2 back, but 5 holes ahead. Holmes is the kind of player in position to finish today with the lead, with groups still on the course finishing on Monday.

And if I’m reading the leaderboard on TGC correctly he played the easier back nine first.

Way to go Jimmy-Joe-Bob Nantz !

Right out of the gate – “…Tommy Gaines….” Way to earn those millions – mispronounce the leader’s name in your first sentence of the day. Followed, of course, by 5 minutes of trying to convince everybody you and Gainey are best buddies. Nantz-ee (Nancy ?) also can’t get his brain wrapped around the idea that Gainey’s gloves really are golf gloves – they are just designed by FootJoy to be worn in the rain. He keep saying that they aren’t golf gloves.

Oh well – he DID room with Fred Couples in college…have you gotten the weekly email reminders ? :-)

wiping tears of gratitude from my eyes...

…where would we be without Jimmy-Joe-Bob Nantz ? Would we ever know that, in golf, if you’re behind – you have to make birdies ? No wonder I’m not on the PGA Tour !

I did get my 12 lbs from El Stubbo

So I’m all good. I used half of them at the annual family Christmas Clam Bake up in Maine and the other half are in the freezer still.
