Webby! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...
Oi, oi, oi!!
A great win by by Karrie today in my hometown at the wonderful Tanah Merah Country Club, has me wondering - is she's back? I tell you what, if she plays like she did this week for the rest of the year, then look out Ya-ni.37 career wins on the LPGA, with 7 majors and already a Hall Of Famer, we - or at least I do, tend to think of her as an elder statesman, but she is only 36. She also has a new attitude that I like - a lot. Webby in the past, did not take poor shots well and it showed. While not quite in the Suzanne Pettersson mold, she was close and I think it stopped her from winning even more than she has. After ten holes today, she was three back of the leader Chie Arimura and seemingly treading water. Five birdies in the next six holes had her in front by one and a couple of solid pars on two of the toughest holes on the course, 17 and 18, had her safely home from Chie and Ya-ni three shots further adrift.
Chie is good, very good. She didn't lose this one today, rather Karrie won it. The same should be said for Ya-ni. Brilliant golf in tough conditions and no one gave an inch. Golf at it's best and they way it should be played - no quarter given, nor asked. At one point on the back nine, some goose was taking photos on the tee and Karrie had to back off twice. Ya- ni raced over to the offender and gave him a glare that would have made Stevie proud. It made me proud, because it was another player that she was helping out and I thought that was very, very cool.
Ya-ni made a great bid for her fifth win in a row and after going out 5 under, had me thinking that she was going to give it a shake. The back nine though, was playing tough and exacted it's revenge on her and gave Karrie it's blessing instead. Chie, as I said is very good. A 7 time winner on the Japan Ladies Tour, and still a relative unknown outside of Japan, she impressed me with her never give up game. A couple of times over the past two days, she looked a little shaky, but instead of going away, she just kept on keeping on. Watch her this year in the majors. She has the game to win one and soon.
The golf course was in magnificent condition, but playing tough. Windy Singapore! This week has been really windy, even for this time of the year and made the course play even tougher than usual. The girls were playing the blue mens tees (not quite the tips, but not far off it) on most holes and while TMCC is not overly long, it is a tough test of every facet of the game. It's probably my favorite course here, mainly because it reminds me a lot of Aussie courses. Elevated greens, with loads of slopes and breaks and deep, good bunkering.
Great crowds today too and the girls gave them their money's worth. One thing the men could learn from them, is the way they interact with the fans. They couldn't do enough for both sponsors and public and they did with genuine pleasure. These girls really do rock!

Thanks for write-up Chip
Havent seen any coverage of this event in the UK. which is a shame.Great to see Webby compete again as well good win for her against a tough field.Yani was there or thereabouts again.Lack of live coverage is part of the problem with the profile of womens golf I think.Sky sports may show the highlights of this event next week but the result is known so theres little excitement.
Agreed Chip
Ive been with my wife to see the women play live at Birkdale and the Welsh Open and seen the men play at St Andrews and have to say that I enjoyed watching them both.Watched the guys and was amazed at the power and watched the women and was equally amazed by great timing and rhythm,.How does Ai hit the ball so far with that swing?

She;s tiny!
Ya-ni is the one that impresses me most though. She is long – really long and she’s not big.
OK< OK you is off the hook...great post, cause it did what you (and us)...wanted
it to do….tell us about the lead players….never mind those 15 back….Now, wouldn’t it have been fun to tee it up against Ya-ni in the event?…common, fess up here…Oh, and where the heck are the pictures of you watching the action?….Great new site too…But why ya still got them damm cats on the front page….Should be you and yur great smile….and ya could be holding that 1 iron too…All in all, kick yur shoes off, open the wine and have a good time….STUB

I did thanks Em
It’s always a great event and kudos to the LPGA, HSBC and IMG for putting it together so well.

Kudos too...
For not mentioning a single American even though three were in the top ten. No mention of the LPGA’s most recognizable name…and face…and legs…. Question: Did this tournament have a cut?
Answer - no.
It’s a limited field event at 63 players.
Now Ping… Why would I mention those who were not in contention – regardless of their nationality? I talked about the three girls that had a chance to win the tournament on Sunday. Pressel, Lewis and Kerr, all played well, but were never a threat. If you wanted a three page ramble on the also rans, I can do that too, if you really want?

Refreshing...
Not in contention…since when does that have anything to do with it ?
There is a certain Golf writer who would mention Tiger in an article about baking if f he could.

Fred. Are you saying
that we should put a fork in him to see if he’s done?

Thanks for post, chip
It sounded pretty exciting. No TV coverage here unfortunately. Admittedly it would have been up against key football, rugby & WGC matches but even so. Must send another moan to SkySports!
My pleasure Wendy
Hey – where’s my email about your spin thing?

Speaking of work Wendy
check out my website. It’s been gutted and completely rebuilt. See what you thin and any criticisms and/or input will be appreciated.

Nice, state of the art website. Hope you have a great year!

I did, I did!
Clicked on everything. Really friendly & informative. Particularly like your emphasis on “partnership” in the learning process.
Think you should show off here and alternate your avatar between Ernie/Gary & the killer cats.
Scratch.......that idea........:)

Sigh - I know
The current one here is senile & totally ruthless. We ask – " What part of DON’T jump/climb/scratch/shout/etc, don’t you get? Answer – “I don’t do don’t – now remove that laptop or I’m taking it down” .
Wendy.....
please explain the move from Vegas to Merrick??? That was a 20 point move. Ok, just kidding. You never know in this game. Merrick was going to be my waiver move last night in the other fantasy game, but I went with Johnson….just dumb luck.
The Saints were the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS for a year...hope I don't have to wait another 44 years for #2....WHO DAT!......:)
BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME TO!!!
You told me to take my highest placed players into the final round even if I hadn’t played them before so I could have a chance at the bonus if they won. So I benched Sabbatini (-5) for Gay (-3) & Vegas (-1) for Merrick (+6).
Also left Richard S. Johnson (-6) on the bench & kept JJHenry (E) but I guess I can’t blame you for that one.
Thus confirms what we have known all along:
GREAT TEAM/CRAP MANAGER – OK? lol through my tears
Oops....."the best laid plans"....
I had JJ also and he was looking good at -4 until he finished with two bogeys and a double……Gay shoots -3 on the front and doesn’t get another birdie or he would have placed…weird and real inconsistent rounds this week and with the weak field everyone had very similar teams….you did move up one on Sunday, which was the only move in the league.
The Saints were the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS for a year...hope I don't have to wait another 44 years for #2....WHO DAT!......:)
The league teams were indeed v. similar
this time round. The daft thing is that if I had only been left with Vegas as my C player (as most teams were), I would have been better of than having a choice.
You went with Johnson? Kick me while I’m down, why don’t you?
This Fantasy stuff is crazier than Matchplay;o)
Johnson......Not in Yahoo....but Kerplookee, which
let me add I am also in third place…….:)

and who was #1 this past week ? moi ! during a week when winning does absolutely nothing to help me catch up ! figures
Are vegetarians allowed to have butterflies in their stomach?
And did we ask em
where he stood in either table? NO, we did not ;o)
And he’s only a couple of points off #1/2.
Well, at least you
shed the title of “best Fantasy Guy without a win”……what am I saying……I don’ have a win…duh. I guess there is something to say about consistency……lol
Wendy….you didn’t have to ask…..I knew you were just being shy……..:)

no wins – but you’re in contention for the top spot ! One good week could put you on top.
