And the beat goes on....
LA is in the books. As the conventional wisdom predicted, Baddeley prevailed. But Couples did his part to make the tournament interesting. Certainly no one will fault Couples for wilting on Sunday, after all he's 51... Mickelson, Stricker and Fowler were all disappointments. Isn't it fascinating how age enters the picture at both ends of the continuum? If, say Rory McIlroy, had been in Couples position his youth would have been offered as a viable reseason for a less than stellar last round. Woe to those guys in the middle age range, when they faulter the word "choke" is usually part of the story. Surprisingly, Rose was the lone European to place in the top 10, Harrington and Oosthuizen at +2 and +3 were well off the pace, and Luke Donald was a MC. And yes, I know Louis is not European. Duval is showing some spark. My sentimental favorite, Erik Compton had a good tournament and my NEW sentimental favorite, Jhonattan Vegas, also had another good week. Next week it's "The Clash of Titans" or at least we hope so. Everybody will be there....except Jim Gray....

As most of the top players didn't turn up this week,
Mickleson, Casey,Stricker, Donald and Furyk didn’t figure here. Furyk battled back well, Stricker seems to be feeling his age. Casey is playing well, I see him having a good year. Mickleson seems to be struggling with the odd round. Couples ? Now a “cerimonial” golfer, he seems to be enjoying it.
There will continue to be events that don’t live up to their billing on any tour, there are simply too many during the year. Top players only play in half of them at best. The Players, when it was played in March, usually signaled the start of when things really got going. Now, we have the WGC’s…but matchplay does not always go to form.
matchplay does not always go to form.
Boy is that the truth! I remember when the final group in the matchplay was Andrew McGee and Jeff Maggert….. It’s a shame the success, importance or popularity of a golf tournament is determined by such a small number of players.
Ahh yes, Maggert won that one.
That is one of the problems of hoping of a classic final…it is rare in any knock out competition. Seeding helps of course. I find in matchplay, just take it for what it is in essence…unpredictable…no bad thing.
I was pulling for Freddy
Even though I didn’t have him in my fantasy golf pics. A couple of bad shots on Sunday did him in. Too bad.

As were legions
Eh, progolf…..Yes, the shot into the spinach on 7 and the bogey on 10 were the holes in the dam. Not to mention stick handling on 16 and 18. None the less a very entertaining final day.
