new cold weather / rainy weather golf clothes

Got something for you guys to check into.  If you're like me, you've wanted a pair of nice looking pants to wear when it's cold and/or rainy out so you didn't have to drag along extra layers to put over top of slacks or shorts.

Enter Galway Bay Apparel and some stylish slacks with a fleece lining and water resistent fabric.  No zippers up the ankles and no elastic around the waist.  Even better, they can be tailored to fit, not just whatever size you get at the store.

Right now, pants are all they have produced, figuring everybody has jackets, but they are coming down the line along with a very cool long sleeve rain shirt with lined sleeves and a cotton body section. (definitely checking out on their web site)

So far, most of the PGA Tour officials are wearing them (a godsend in Phoenix), Rocco Mediate, Marty Hackel (fashion editor for Golf Digest), Dottie Pepper, and even Rich Lerner.

Check them out at www.GBAGolf.com

I see that Galway Bay is distributed in Georgia, USA

and not over here in Galway, Ireland. Probably manufactured is China like everything else too. Looks like quality stuff none the less.

yes – he’s here in Georgia. We had him in the studio on Sunday. Very nice guy. He and his family were on vacation in Galway when he got the idea for the pants…and Galway Bay sounded better than “Terry’s Golf Pants”.

yes – manufactured in China. It’s pretty fascinating how things like this get done. A friend of Terry’s is in a uniform business and he gave Terry access to his pipeline. I had no idea how things worked in the clothing business – but they lay things out on a CAD program and take all kinds of measurements to get the design laid out – then you send the designs to the folks in China to be put in a sample form. The samples are sent back to the designer to test and see how it does. Things get done the same way with the American pipeline, but it goes through several union offices before a sample ges made – you’re probably not going to pay $800 for a pair of pants that aren’t manufactured any better than what you get from China.

LMAO@"Terry's Golf Pants" brand

Galway does have a beautifull Bay indeed. I’ve been over there several times in the last 2 weeks, just to hang around the working Harbor as I come from a family of Commercial Fisherman and I’m somewhat of an Old Salt myself. I have been out on two commercial fishing boats so far just for fun and tossed back a few with one of the boat captains afterwards. Was suppose to be flying home today but have postponed my flight home for Wednesday as the weather is suppose to be sunny and in the mid 40’s this week and I hoping to play another 36 holes with my new mates. Galway is one of the nicest places I have been on this earth. Very Scenic, Good Food , Great people and a wealth of golfers and fans alike. I would recommend Galway to anyone.

My folks are with you 1000% – they love Galway.

You got to go out on a couple of commercial fishing boats on this trip ? Are these the big net fishing boats ? Did you get in on the work ?

Yep Court

Big Net fishing boats = Draggers and Gill Netters. I did borrow a pair of Grundens fishing pants and a pair of gloves from the Capt’s and did help with a few trawls. I’ve had a little practice over the years. In my teen years I worked as a dockboy and in my early twenties, (to help pay for my boxing gym membership) I worked on various Lobster Boats, Draggers and Gill Net Boats. These days I do as much deep sea fishing as time allows with my busy schedule. I go out Lobster fishing with my brother up in Maine a few times a year as well. Good Times.

Sounds like a lot of fun (“fun” because I don’t have to do it for a living)

I hear ya court

I’m one of the few in my family that didn’t take on the Family Fishing Trade. My brother that is only a couple of years older than me is looking pretty haggard from his years at Sea. The daily salt air does a number on drying out your skin. I love being out there and not being able to see land, but I wouldn’t want to do it for a living.

It was 4c throughout

The difference was on Monday it was 4c plus brilliant sunshine. Today was 4c but bitter wind, overcast & foggy damp air. Regretted starting for the first couple of holes, & rushed it. Into the valley, out of the wind, played better. The 7/8/9 W/SW are still a delight. Have great windproof sweater, but difficult to find warm enough trousers over here which aren’t too bulky. Hem to length for me is good too at my less than average height. I’ll take a look this w/e at local golf shops, but if nothing suitable, I am serious about these trousers.

You won’t find anything like these pants in the stores unless they are carrying Galway Bay. Terry said they are about $25 more in stores and not hemmed – whatever that price translates to in pounds. And these are pants you can wear to the restaurant after the round.

wind proof, fleece instead of flannel, and water resistent. (I learned that the difference in water resistent and water proof is that water proof has sealed seams)

Tail-end of season so not much out there

All the summer stuff coming in now.

Still need some winter golf trousers, Easing, whatever the base layers.

Such laughter coming from a man who still wears “budgie smugglers”. He probably also wears a Wee Willie Winkie nightshirt & nightcap too.

Just the thought of the long Johns

send me into gales of laughter….OK, I’ll bite…Whats a “budgie Smuggler” ? Long Johns, HO HO HO HO…Awww my sides hurt….LOL…STUB

summer in the UK ? I’m sure these will still be comfortable in that sweltering 7* (45* F) heat. :-D

lol – had to look up “budgie smugglers” – you really need to publish something to help us out. (I promise it will be a better read than Michelle Wie’s 8th grade research paper published at Stanford)

Aussie slang not English but

I thought it might give chip’nputt a laugh.

Article was not the standard I would expect from a Stanford student. I did do a stint on a local newspaper for several months but realised it wasn’t for me.

doesn’t mean you wouldn’t do a good job with that article. :-)

Wendy, have you ever tried these base layers ?

Just slip them on then put your trousers on. They do the trick. Cheaper at Sports Direct

I didn't know you could speak

messing about English/English (what’s in charge) ;o)

by WendyUK on Feb 21, 2011 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Did you buy a pair of the pants, Court?

I’d still like to buy them but at the moment the shipping charge from USA is too steep. Maybe wait until they find a European distributor or persuade & reimburse ProgGolf to bring them over to Ireland and ship them to me from there? That makes 2 shipping charges though. Think there could be a good market for them in Europe.
