Enough of John Daly!
John Daly withdrew from the Australian Open today.

That's nothing new, given that he has had twenty-seven previous withdrawals (WD's) from PGA Tour events since 2000. That's right - 27 WD's, usually citing injury as the reason. I have noticed however, that he is nearly always several shots over par when doing so. That was becoming a joke in itself, but...
Today was vintage Daly at his most obnoxious, petulant best - or worst. Standing on the tee of the drivable par 4 tenth hole, Daly was already 4 over the card. The tenth hole runs along side the range at The Lakes and some balls were finding their way over the fence and into the greenside bunkers of that 10th hole. Making a triple bogey after hitting the wrong ball and incurring a two shot penalty, Daly was now 7 over. I'm sure there will be repercussions and excuses made because of the wayward ball situation, but the bottom line is that you identify your ball before you play it. If you mess up, you take your lumps, get over it and go play some golf. The what the sponsors gave you the invite for, right?
On to the par five 12th. Water down the right. for the second shot if you're going for the green - six balls into the water and Daly WD's. Running out of balls is his excuse. To add insult to injury, his GF took a swipe at a TV camera on their ignominious march off The Lakes and out of the Australian Open, hopefully for the last time.
When are the powers that be going to stop this man from bringing the game to a level that belongs more in something akin to a staged wrestling arena? For me, it can't come quickly enough.
This just in from the Australain PGA at a bit after 6 pm Aussie time.
Statement from Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia
Thursday 10th November 2011
“The PGA Tour of Australasia confirms that no appearance fees were payable to John Daly for his appearance at the Emirates Australian Open or for his planned appearance at the Australian PGA Championship. This afternoon’s actions by Daly in withdrawing from the course constitute a breach of the PGA Tour of Australasia’s regulations and will be referred to the disciplinary committee as soon as practically possible. In view of that breach and a similar instance in Europe recently the PGA Tour of Australasia has withdrawn its offer to John Daly to play at the Australian PGA Championship.”
“The PGA does not need this kind of behaviour tarnishing the achievements of other players and the reputation of our tournaments. John is not welcome at Coolum.”

Is there any way a pro golfer would hit 6 balls into the water............??
It has to be deliberate-bad example of a pro who has lost the plot.Seem to remember a pevious drama in Oz when he smashed a spectators phone against a tree!!
His bad behaviour is getting worse-good on the Aussies for telling him where to put his boomerang.
That old line ‘if you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen’ would seem to apply.Pack up your travelling circus John-it’s over!!-Shame though great player to watch in his heyday.

Pretty hacked off I'd say..........
I used to enjoy watching JD he was an entertainer, but he’s been on the slippery slope for some time.He can’t be fined by the PGA in Oz I don’t think as he’s not a member.I don’t suppose they have a local rule like making him eat a live possum???
Apart from JD’s inexcuseable antics there’ a damn fine tournament going on.

Daly was in on a sponsor’s invite – he didn’t take the spot of an alternate.
Can’t disagree with anything you said. And somewhere down the line, he will get another chance, just because he’s John Daly, but it’s going to be a while.
Especially liked that the PGA of Oz was proactive and yanked his invite in 2 weeks.
I have been a fan of Daly’s since he broke onto the scene – but like most everybody else, I’m stunned at the way he has treated the game and his career.
If at first you don't secede, try try again
Court.
I was speaking metaphorically. Nonetheless, someone didn’t play this week because Daly did. Or at least for 11 holes, he did.
Here’s the thing – Daly is a draw – he sells tickets – and until Austria earlier this year, his missed cuts were for bad play, not childish hissy fits. Trevor Herdon said that the reason Daly was invited was because he’s a major winner.
Yes, he has been an embarrassment in the past, but his efforts have been better this year…except for Austria. If you’re didn’t condemn the invite before the tournament, you can’t condemn it after something like this happens.
I think they did the right thing going forward by yanking his invie into the Aussie Masters.
If at first you don't secede, try try again
I'm not condemning the invite
I am condemning the man and his actions. He has been given too many “second chances” and it looks as though he has finally used up his last one yesterday.
I watched Daly play in Melbourne years ago at my home course and no one has impressed me more with sheer ability than he did that day. I’m actually more saddened by yesterday than anything else.
Court..
Didn’t notice you already caught the"uninvite.

The 9th hole
at my course runs along the driving range. You can bet I doublecheck that I’m playing the right ball (tho’ to be honest the range balls are pretty ropey), rather than the single check I always perform. I just don’t understand why a professional wouldn’t check.
Was there no dropping zone on the 12th or was he simply being daft?
That’s John done and dusted in Oz. He’ll still probably get invites in Europe though.
Time to retire for Daly
He’s past it as a golfer anyway. He should write a book maybe and call it a day. He was exciting once, these days he bores the hell out of me.
Maybe John hits a million balls into the water on purpose
so that he actually DOES run out of balls, and thus has “no choice” but to withdraw.
Can't spell "Colletti" without LOL.
Yeah, I think it's over.
Especially since he’s now a better musician than golfer, and that’s shockingly bad. Now the Australian PGA has had enough, uninviting him to the Australian PGA tourney in two weeks.

"Hey John, what can you say about your new Sobe sponsorship?"
“I don’t know, it goes well with vodka?”
"Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect."
