Yani wins 10 for the year!

Yani Tseng has reinforced the notion fact, that she is the best player in the world of golf this year - male or female and she did it handsomely this past weekend.

Yani won her 7th LPGA title this weekend in her home town, when she won the Sunrise LPGA Championship in Taiwan on Sunday. After a close call and eventual runner up place finish by the barest of margins, to N Y Choi last week, Yani went one better to capture not just her 7th LPGA win for the year, but her tenth win world wide for the year.

With a 6 under round of 66 on a course that was giving nothing way, she did what she has done beautifully for the whole of 2011, she gapped them! 16 under and 5 shots clear of Amy Yang saw her put the icing on the cake of a year that can only be described as total domination.

She won $300,000 US for her effort and promptly gave back $100,000 of the winners cheque to the Taiwan Golf Association . In her words -

"It is a long road to develop and groom a golfer. Young golfers need as much support as possible to help them compete with the best from the rest of the world," the 22-year-old said late Sunday.

"I hope I can set an example so more people will follow suit to help chip in and contribute to this cause in an attempt to bring out more young talents."

She's 22, she's class and she is the best in golf and isn't it great??

Very good Chip

Good to see someone writing about her.

I’m over in S. Korea until the 31st of Oct. and the people here love her even though she is from Tiawan. Big article about her in this mornings newspaper.

Hey Pro!

Someone needed to. She is a shining example of what is great about the game.
Enjoy the Kimchi – I love that stuff!

If you get a chance Wendy

don’t miss it, or her. She is scary long and just flat out great fun to watch. She is also a genuinely happy and nice person to boot.
I’ll go out on a limb here and say that she is a way better ball striker than Annika, actually, that’s not going out on a limb, because she is.

Funny you mention that about

Annika. I was watching some of the tournament last night and told my wife to watch her swing and how good it was. My thoughts were that Annika won (like Tiger) because she was tenacious and driven, but Yani is just flat out better, by far, than the rest of them. And you are also right about her being “happy and nice”…….I can only imagine how much more she would win if she had that killer streak in her. I like her just like she is……..Incredible!

I DO watch her every chance I get, Chip

We just don’t get enough televised LPGA over here.

And to put those wins in context, the top golfers on the LPGA play in (nearly) all the events. Every tournament has at least seven of the top ten golfer. There is no “silly season” or cheap wins on the tour.

On another note...

As much as I like Grace Park, 24th place should not get you into an event called the Titleholders. Pat Hurst and Alison Walshe also got in with a T16th. They need to tinker with the selection process if they want to make this an elite event.

Pretty impressive to win almost 25% of the LPGA’s events, and it was nearly 8 wins were it not for Stacy Lewis catching fire on Sunday at the Kraft-Nabisco.

Yani will probably be the greatest ever lady golfer at least

Yet she hardly gets credit for that. I can’t help thinking if it was Wie winning 10 times this year the media would go nuts about Michelle , the new golfing phenom. But we already have one, her name is Yani.

Let’s see what happens if either Wie or Thompson win the December LET event in Dubai. If either of them win it then GC will probably stick to the old plan and Yani becomes an afterthought in their marketing plan for another year.

I concur, scrums.

This sort of conjecture falls into the same class as “a lock to win 19 majors”. We will see.

A little murky, there...

I was meaning that GC a couple of years back was touting TW as a lock to break Jack’s record. Now, not so much. GC is always looking to jump on the latest bandwagon, especially if it is rolling in the USA.

Agreed Handi.Yani's accomplishments should be a huge story.........

If this was Wie the GC would be fawning suck-ups.I wonder how many articles would have been written by now-hell they may even have been prompted to forget Tiger for a while.
It’s a shame.I don’t know it seemed to me that Annika and Lorena had more coverage than Yani when they were running hot.

by scrumsndswings on Oct 26, 2011 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

You may be right,

but it’s hard to say. Annika was the best for so long, maybe the GC’s of the world paid more attention later in her career. Lorena kinda had that sultry golf vixen thing going on. Maybe that accounts for some added attention.

Yani is a good interview from what I’ve seen, and she does seem to be a pleasant, cheerful person every time she’s on camera. I guess I don’t really get it either. I wouldn’t think her not being an American would be to blame…neither were Annika and Lorena.

by handicapismyswing on Oct 26, 2011 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Perhaps it's a West- East thing ?

Annika and Lorena seem more "American " to Americans than Yani can ? Stupid reason I know, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

by Easingwold on Oct 27, 2011 6:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Nope.....

Annika and Lorena didn’t “seem more American” to me. We all remember how they were at the end of their careers, but I don’t remember a thing about the beginning of their great runs. It’s early for Yani….her time is coming, we just need to be patient and let the media finish mourning over the fact that they got it wrong with Wie……then maybe they will give Yani her due. Remember it was just a year ago that there was a different #1 every week.

Also, we criticize the media for prematurely crowning the “next Tiger Woods”, only to see that player fade into oblivion……now we criticize them for not crowning Yani soon enough…..go figure……:)

Good point about the media crowning the next great player.

But Yani already is huge. If that was macllroy winning 5 majors by now no one would mention Woods, IMO. Great point about Wie too. Oh yeah…I’m rooting for the Rangers, just for you :)

Too early to say “best of all time” – Annika had a career with a number of years like this – where she got to 10 wins on the LPGA Tour, not a combination of LPGA and international wins…but how cool would it be to have TWO “best of all time” players living in the same house ? :-)

Yani Tseng has little shelf life at GC...

It’s Tuesday morning and there are no LPGA articles on the front page of GC website. Meanwhile the article for the cover of Tiger’s video game is still there despite the fact that the piece on Yani’s victory had more comments.

I get my Yani fix the old fashion way, I googleyoutubefacebook it.
