GE Could Bring the PGA Tour's Developmental Tour to Life
Sports Business Journal is reporting General Electric is in talks with the PGA Tour about a major sponsorship deal, including taking over as title sponsor of the developmental tour known currently as the Nationwide Tour.
Several weeks ago, Nationwide announced it would be stepping out of that sponsorship and into the presenting sponsor role for Jack Nicklaus' the Memorial tournament.
General Electric could also be conducting talks with the Tour about a sponsorship package to title the proposed Latin American developmental tour under the PGA Tour umbrella.
The conglomerate is currently the majority owner of NBC-Universal, though an approval of the NBC merger with Comcast would free General Electric from that business - and being tied to a network broadcasting the PGA Tour.
