Lee Westwood Can Play 14 Holes Now - Just Enough for Losing
Good news, European golf fans! Your best player can safely get through 14 holes of a golf course now without having to drive a cart. Lee Westwood hit the course today for the first time since before the PGA Championship to try and shake off some rust.
Westwood says he made "six birdies and an eagle – in a 30mph wind" in a corporate outing for Jaguar.
This week, the world number three has made the rounds in the media, imploring he is exercising and will be fully prepared for Celtic Manor in a few weeks.
While he may have told Rich Lerner that he's ready, a European journalist I talked to said there was no chance he would be fully prepared. Before this flurry of positive press for Westwood, we contacted his agent Chubby Chandler to no avail. Perhaps this recent press is a signal of his health or, alternatively, a desperate push to keep him on the team - probably the former.
Who knows the actual truth, but it appears more and more likely that a small charge from Party City will appear on Paul Casey's AmEx next month for American flags, stickers, and a plush Uncle Sam bear that plays Stars and Stripes Forever.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Yabut Court...now we got our very own
card carryin Journalist citing both Lerner and an un-named European journalist in the same story….I wish I have been at that Jaguar outing…I love Jaguars’,,,drive one too…I bet Wendy and Easy do too….STUB
so you’re saying…what….RB’s anglin’ to get one of Lerner’s extra hair pieces ? (lol) (JUST kidding RB !)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I’d probably believe that…but I always pictured RB as a dreds kind of guy
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
He'll know better by Friday
when he’s going to play 36 holes to prove to himself that he won’t be a passenger.
And somebody has to say it, (well, they don’t, but I will anyway), maybe he’ll only need to play 14 holes – just enough for winning?!
I hope he can play – but how about Westwood having to drop out, followed by Paul Casey winning the Tour Championship (presented by Coca Cola) – and Monty has to go back on his line about Casey not playing Euro Tour golf enough AND Justin Rose being the next in line for a spot on the team ? :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I don't think Monty said Casey hadn't played in Europe enough
(though he could have played at Gleneagles to qualify) as could Rose & Harrington (who played fewer than Casey). He harped on about Harrington being a major winner instead. I would be delighted if Casey won the Tour Championship and he would have been my pick instead of Harrington. BUT I don’t want to contemplate Westwood having to drop out – so I won’t! ;o)
Agreed Court, but Luke got a 1/2/3 (I think) in Europe
and played at Celtic which must have been worth a few brownie points? I only hope Padraig/Tiger feel as keen to justify being picks as Poulter was last time out.
