Is Steve Williams the New Coach for Tiger Woods?

Seems kind of ridiculous, but Steve Williams might be trying to lend a hand to Tiger Woods.  Take a look at these pics from the practice round today at Whistling Straits.

Stevie's even trying his hand at being the next Dave Stockton.

Obviously it's not really the case, but the latest rumor on Instructor Search 2010 is that Grant Waite - the guy Tiger beat with that 206 yard iron shot over water out of a bunker to win the 2000 Canadian Open - could be his next teacher.  That seems kind of out there.  Then again, Tiger's kind of out there right now.

I didn't see anything in the pics

that were different from the past….Stevie has always been doing just what the pics showed….And this is what good caddies are supposed to do….help the player…I am not a hugh fan of Stevie, but let’s be fair…He is a top notch looper….You can bet if he ever leaves Tigers bag, there will be a whole bunch of guys ready to hire him….As for the guy From Canada ? not a ice cubes chance in hell he gets the nod…Tiger will figgure it out himself, or it will be with a top notch instructer….Personally, why he doesn’t go with Butch I’ll never know…Egos maybe….STUB

Stevie said that Tiger is his last bag. Someone will have to offer him a serious boatload of guaranteed money. Tiger has made him a multi-millionaire…most of the years he has been with TW, Stevie was the highest paid athlete in New Zealand. Not bad work if you can get it. :-)

I’m with you on getting back with Butch – but that’s not going to happen as long as Phil is in Butch’s stable. It’s a shame, too. Butch was a terrific father-figure type for Tiger. (I’ll bet Michelle Wie could get Tiger a spot with Leadbetter AND a free Swing-Setter !) :-D

Grant Waite

is a Kiwi. Sean Foley is the Canadian who works with O’hair etc. The Kiwi connection deepens and Grant does know his stuff. Maybe?

yeah – but can he get Tiger a Swing-Setter ? :-)

I hope he can find someone who can help get some joy back in his game.

Looks Like

Stevie is looking a little broken these days himself. We just finished packing up our crap up here in Akron and are heading to Whistling Straits tomorrow. I actually got to see the last 3 groups play the final 16 holes yesterday. “FAN” TASTIC. Sean O’Hair swing looks REAL good. Goosen was tremendous most of the week. I got to meet Bo Van Pelt on Sat night and had a drink with him. Class-A guy all the way. Kenny Perry actually recognised me first for a change, lol He tapped me on the shoulder from behind and said , hey Rich, how do you like the naked lady tee’s I gave you for your birthday back in May ? Blew me away. lol Jimenez played pretty well this week overall and always a gentleman. I spent some time with Els, Scott, Cabrera, Clark. First time meeting up with Oosthuizen, Curtis and Bubba Watson. And thats the week that was.

I sure hope so...

We have 44 scheduled guest that week and a few other “will calls”. I most likely won’t be there myself as I have clients I am responsible for at the “Super Six World Boxing Classic” on the 25th of September.

Where is the boxing going to be ?

That’s a big group coming in to Atlanta. I’m sure they’ll have a great time. East Lake is such a cool place to see and walk around.

Origionaly it was scheduled for Mandalay Bay, Vegas

But that was last years early prediction. As of right now, its a TBD. Amazingly poor scheduling by the likes of Showtime and the promoters if ya ask me and a nightmare for our company to schedule clients for flights, hotels, meals etc etc. What I find confusing is that the Euro’s fighting in the same Euro version of the Super Six are already scheduled for the 25th over in Denmark with ticket sales already exceeding 17,000.

Though you may indeed find that confusing, PG, I think you're much more

confused over who’s prettier, Natalie Bulbous or the girl on the right.

Discussion going on at PutterTalk.com about Tiger’s putter – whether it’s something he’ll use all week – but it doesn’t look like his regular putter – shaft band and possibly a sight line.

Grant Waite?

Really, Grant Waite might become his teacher? Does Grant have any experience teaching? He has played almost a full schedule on the egolf professional tour with limited success this year, seems like he is still trying ot make it as a player. That would be amazing if Tiger turned to him. I would think that Craig Perks would make a little more sense since he officially retired and started teaching a bit back at his adopted home in Louisiana. That would be truly baffling if Grant Waite is actually the guy.

I don’t think Grant would be the guy. Going to do a post this morning outlining who seems to be on the short list.

Miss Cleo would be so proud

oh this should be good – I wonder who’s compiling this “short list” of contenders. Amazing how these things come up when the man hasn’t said a word about taking in a new coach other than that he’s going it on his own for a while. I love these kinds of stories because the list generally grows and grows until someone gets lucky and happens to get the right name on a list.

My Opinion

Lee Trevino, would be a good choice. But shhhhhh, don’t tell Tiger.

Just because you are still playing, doesn’t mean you know any less about the golf swing and how to impart that knowledge. There is also a world of difference between “teaching” and working with a player. Working with a player is far more subliminal. The player knows the mechanics, it’s you both working together with a common thought process that makes the difference. Tiger probably knows as much about the golf swing as any teaching pro out there, so what he needs, is someone on the same page that will help reinforce what he already knows. It’s all about confidence.

It will be

Shawn Foley, (in my opinion). He lives very close and has a philosophy of building swings around player’s physical issues / injuries. I believe getting away from Haney will end up being a good thing in the long run.

Fight for your opinions, but do not believe that they contain the whole truth, or the only truth.

Foley

is known to be a bit of a loose cannon. Team Tiger may not want the association? It’s been rumored to be Foley for months now, so it will be interesting to see if he gets the nod. I heard a while back that Butch would be happy to have him back and that overtures were being made. All good though, as it gives us something new to speculate about aside from which bimbo would be next to come out of the woodwork. At least we’re now back to golf.
