Jim Furyk Unlucky at 16 on Sunday, Gains Momentum for PGA
Jim Furyk was making a great move on Sunday at Firestone. Six under through 15 holes, Furyk came to the par 5 sixteenth with a chance to make some real leaderboard noise.
Hitting his third shot into the green, Furyk was incredibly unlucky. The approach clipped the flagstick about three feet up, then into the back lip of the cup, and ricocheted into the water hazard. Furyk went back, hit his fifth, and amazingly got up-and-down for bogey six.
The two-time 2010 PGA Tour winner made birdie at the last to get the stroke back and post -7 to eventually finish T6 with Jeff Overton.
After the round, Furyk said of the hole, "I knew that if I could get it to 9-under, maybe I could put some heat if I posted it early, 10-under sure may have had a chance to win. I kind of took any hope of that happening away."
While the end result might have been disappointing - and costly - Furyk takes solace from the final round 64 going into the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
"I haven't got a round going where I got it way under par and I kind of fixed that a little bit today. I got to see some putts going in, so that makes me feel better for next week."

You know how these media types are – always hedging bets by filling out multiple draw sheets. (lol)

except for that one seeing-eye flagstick that got Furyk confused with Sergio – what a bad break.

“Hole out on the fly” was friggin awesome

I did it once
I holed out an 8 iron at Gleneagles Kings course. My playing partner, whom I didn’t know and we got paired together couldn’t believe it. It made a loud pop as it went in the cup. I think I saw Corey Pavin do it once, might have been the Ryder Cup, I’m not sure. But I was thrilled just the same.
Easy...bit of trivia for ya...
we’uns got aGleneagles CC in in the USA of Dallas Texas…2 Courses..Kings and Queens…Freddy Couples played outa there when he lived here…Both are nice tracks…Kings slightly longer in yardage…stay thirsty my friend…hey, slightly confused…have you been or are you going to IOW…Hope Wendy going there first, didn’t cause them to raise the room rates….STUB
NICE ! I hope there was some celebration after it went down. Can’t have a shot like that followed by a quiet “jolly good good show”. :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
He was from Brighton
Nowt jolly about him, lol…even though I beat him, he got out of the 1st greenside bunker 1st time…the lip was 20 feet high !
Well Done easing :o)
Freddy Couples did it at TPC Sawgrass on the par 3, 17th. It went in for a par as his first tee shot had gone in the water.
