Pennsylvania Plane Crash Cancels Tee Time at Chestnut Ridge
Making national headlines this evening is a plane crash directly into a house in Bell Township, Pennsylvania. The Beech Baron BE-58 twin-engine prop aircraft slammed into the home around 9:20 am this morning. The two people aboard the aircraft that took off from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Labtrobe were killed in the crash.
The plane burst into flames, destroying the home in the process. Steve Yanko, a 66 year old man, was sleeping on the couch with his dog when the crash occurred. He and the dog escaped. Mr. Yanko's wife, Rose, was out shopping when the crash happened.
When we heard about the news this afternoon, my wife called my father-in-law to talk about the accident since the site of the wreck was close to his hometown. My father-in-law - a retired teacher - works at a local golf course named Chestnut Ridge. It's where Katie and I had our wedding reception.
This morning, my father-in-law was working the course when apparently someone called in to cancel their tee time. That's not an unusual thing, but the reason sure was. The caller canceled their tee time because they said a plane crashed into their house.
My father-in-law says that everyone in the pro shop was laughing because they thought that was the lamest excuse ever to cancel a tee time.
Then they found out about the crash.

Just a damm good thing it
wasn’t during your wedding reception….and no, the brides parents wouldn’t have been able to get a refund from the caters, band, booze or anybody else…and if you think that would have been the best way to go on a honeymoon with a pissed off bride….well my friend,…it’s a good thing you have all the years ahead of you to learn about life….STUB
I’m guessing that means his clubs were destroyed in the crash, or he would’ve made the tee time.
That’s pretty amazing to survive a plane hitting your house.

I’ve been reading the blog for awhile now, but I had no idea you had a western PA connection, Ryan. I try to grab 18 at Chestnut Ridge when I’m “back home” at least once a year (or Tom’s Run if I have a big wad of cash burning a hole in my pocket).
Putting the pieces together, it sounds like your father-in-law was my high school golf coach. Nine years later and I still use the grip he taught me. He’s a great guy (but his wife was an even better second grade teacher!).
Keep up the good work!
