Katsumasa Miyamoto Shoots 62, One Off Course Record at Firestone South
Katsumasa Miyamoto used an orange ball to come up just one stroke shy of tying the course record at Firestone South in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Miyamoto came home in 29 strokes - setting a record for the back nine - to card 62 and finish three rounds on -5.
Miyamoto was aided by a hole out for eagle on the par 4 17th from 117 yards with a pitching wedge. He had four birdies to accompany that eagle on the back nine. He had three birdies and a bogey on the front nine.
Miyamoto got into the tournament in the first place by winning the Japanese Tour Championship - one of four wins on the Japanese Tour last year. This is his first start on the PGA Tour in nearly a decade.
The round of 62 was tied for the second lowest round in the history of championship and at the South Course. Here are the course records and lowest rounds in the history of the WGC at Firestone.
Course record: 61 - 2 players
- Jose Maria Olazabal shot 61 in the first round of the 1990 NEC World Series of Golf to win by 12
- Tiger shot 61 in 2000, winning 11 clear of the field at the WGC Bridgestone Inivtational
Tournament record: 61 - Tiger Woods (2000)

- Tiger shot 62 in '99 third round, one clear of Mickelson on -10
- Fred Funk second round 2003, finished T14, 10 back of Darren Clarke

pins in accessible places on the greens. As easy as it could be. Mind you, holing your 2nd shot on 17 helps too.

playing Lift, clean and Place your ball closer to the hole…Guess El Scumbag didn;t get the e-mail to do that….I figger it would have helped him by 2 shots anyway…How’s Court holding up now that Tiger is in the toilet ? Play well today, and stay thirsty my friend….STUB
