Lee Westwood Withdraws from Bridgestone & PGA Championship
After playing two rounds at Firestone in +7, it was clear that Lee Westwood was in some kind of pain at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. In the weeks leading into the Open Championship, Westwood announced he was suffering from a strained, now ruptured plantaris muscle.
Two weeks prior to the British, in France, Westwood went to the hospital with a blood clot that left many worried about his health. He never withdrew, and did make his starts. Westwood flourished at the Open, finishing runner-up (albeit a distant one) to Louis Oosthuizen.
Now, though, Westwood will not finish this week's tournament in Ohio or compete in next week's PGA Championship in Wisconsin.
"It just seems to be getting worse," Westwood said after his round on Friday. "There’s no strength in it. I don’t have a deal of confidence in it, and then on the way down I’m finding it hard to hold my weight on it and then push off."
The Englishman says that the only thing he can do to get better is to rest for approximately six weeks. How much time until the Ryder Cup? 8 weeks. Just enough time.

I did see Westwood limping badly
along the clubhouse walkway and out to the side parking lot after the round. He also spent some time in the medical trailer following his round.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Yep, to bad for Lee
Hopefully he will be back in time for the Ryder Cup. Meanwhile Phil is looking good to take over at #1 this week. He only needs to finish fourth place or better and the way it looks at the moment it will probably happen.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
He felt he had to carry on
At the French, the Open at St Andrews was looming. Shame he will miss the PGA, he was one of the favourates.
Yeah, I picked him back before the U.S. Open... what a bad break for Lee.

no no no - this can't be right...
…it has to be Tiger’s fault somehow. :-)
But seriously – hope he’ll be alright soon.

ouch – not helping the fantasy points there.
did you pick players for Turning Stone, too ? Or is it just for Bridgestone ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Just Bridgestone????......I hope we weren't supposed to pick both......
I’m 7th overall for the year……I need a couple of good weeks…….
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
I wasn't supposed to tell, but that could've applied to all of us in so many ways.
