Quail Hollow to Get 2017 PGA Championship
A year ago when it was made readily apparent that Quail Hollow would abandon its PGA Tour stop in 2014 in lieu of trying to attract a major championship, it seemed clear that the Charlotte club's best bet would be for the PGA Championship.
Now it appears Quail Hollow will quickly get its wish. Ron Green Jr. is reporting the PGA of America will announce in a press conference tomorrow that the club will host the 2017 PGA Championship.
Last year, Davis Love III said the Hollow hosting a major would be a logistical nightmare, but depending upon the example set by the USGA next year in staging the National Open at Congo - a place with effectively only two ways in and out - the PGA of America could game plan for those challenges.

Good for them ! QH has long been recognized as one of the great courses that doesn’t get a major. But I hope they don’t pull the regular tour stop just to get a major. That would be a real shame.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
They’ve already said that after 2014 that they’re done.

"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Happy
Glad to see a major scheduled to be played at one of the player’s favorite courses. As long as spectators aren’t allowed to stand in the hazards everything should be OK.

Tired of getting paired up? Check out FullForesome.com.
I think that they should allow spectators to walk/stand in the hazards...
would set a new dimintion to the perils of Pauline….Just think, another problem for the players to deal with in addition to the GC interviews….STUB
Would Lerners Hairpiece be considered a hazard ?
Like if it blew off and ended up in one of the fairways looking like a large Divot.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
There'd be hell toupe.
(That’s actually a Simpsons episode title.)
They could stand in the water
It’s hot in NC in the summer, so it might be a pleasant place to stand.

This is good.
Logistics be damned. The finishing holes at QH set up as well for the conclusion of a major as just about any course in America.
If
the ball ends up leaning against or near the said Hairpeice, would it be a lateral hazard or a loose impediment ?
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Only if fans are standing in it
It’s just that big.

DL3 must not have noticed Pinehurts traffic
Pretty much the only way in or out of Pinehurst #2 (or Pine Needles, where the Women’s Open has been 3X) is Midland Road, which leads to other arteries in and out of the area.
As it is with most pro tournaments, shuttle buses carried patrons to and from the course site, but in Pinehurst/Southern Pines, folks who are going to the courses have had quite a lot of traffic to get through.
Surely he knows this – it isn’t like Whistling Straits is hard aside an Interstate. One has to wonder if he had other motives.
