Euro Tour Winner: Monty's Picks - Casey, Molinari, Rose
We are just a few short hours away from Colin Montgomerie's announcement forming the European Ryder Cup team. There has been rampant speculation about who will make the team, but one European Tour player seems to know who the picks are.
Thomas Levet, who missed the cut this week by a shot at Gleneagles, says on his Facebook profile that Paul Casey, Edoardo Molinari, and Justin Rose will be Monty's three picks.
There has been talk that the players already know who will be picked but cannot divulge because of heavy betting on the picks in the UK and throughout Europe.
Does Levet have the skinny?

I'm glad we're just a few short hours away from
Montgomerie’s announcement. I can’t stand those long hours.
Just don’t have the time.
if Monty doesn't make the picks
that Levet predicts he should have his head examined. Paddy hasn’t contended since March and has a dreadful RC record. Rose has been excellent all year and the Molinari brothers will be a very formidable pairing. I personally think Casesy should be the clear pick over Donald, but I can understand someone making a case for Luke.
I think the team shaped up nicely for them. I am sure Monty is pleased that Jiminez decided to play in Scotland this week and played well. HIs experience will help the squad, but I am not sure he would have gotten a captain’s pick. I would imagine that Monty is very happy that he held on to his spot as opposed to Simon Dyson.
What a crazy system
Westwood, McIlroy, Kaymer, and McDowell are the top 4 on the World list – so they’re in. Now Monty goes to the Euro list for the next five ?
Francesco just won in Scotland for the second time. Does that move him up high enough that he doesn’t need a captain’s pick ?
The Euro list has Casey at 9. Who’s outside the top 9 and needs a captain’s pick ? This is nuts.
Hard to argue with Levet’s prediction. Paddy can’t be on the team the way he’s been playing and with his record. Dyson didn’t win today, so he’s out. Hard to break up the Molinari’s with their team play. Rose has had a great year with his two wins, and Paul Casey has a terrific match play record.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Because so many Europeans play in the US
there has to be 2 lists to make sure a top player won’t slip the net. Faldo for quite a few years, got picked because of his play in America. 2 lists then would have included Faldo without having to use a pick on him. It’s the best system in the current situation.
courtgolf: molinari just missed out on automatic qualification. i believe if MAJ had missed the cut eduoardo’s win would have been enough to get an automatic spot.

OOPPPS !
no rose – no casey
I like that both Molinari’s are in – great for Luke Donald…
Shocked that Harrington’s there.
Sounds like Monty might have been swayed by Donald’s birdie streak today.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
wow, really surprised by the picks…..especially snubbing Casey for Harrington. Paddy just doesn’t get it done in the Ryder Cup and has been totally mediocre this year.
i’d love to be inside the ropes with the casey harrington group today. i am sure it is more than a little awkward.
No more than any other time when there was a close call.
The fact that he has won 3 majors swung it.
I think MAJ came over to Gleneagles
because Monty told him he wouldn’t be a pick vs. The Four playing in US. I believe the i/vs with Harrington, Casey & Donald in which they say they had the news broken to them on the course (or indicated by a thumbs-up to Harrington from his wife, but no thumbs-up to Casey, his playing partner and good friend of Harrington’s wife). I can’t think of any reason why Levet would have been in the know. I went for Molinari, Donald & Casey. I think Harrington was lucky to get picked over Casey based on this year’s play, RC records, but don’t feel as heated about it as I was over the picks last time. Let’s hope Harrington does a Poulter to justify his inclusion this time.
Last time,
Clarke got the sympathy vote, Poulter got the nod. Can’t dispute that Poulter was a good pick. Harrington probably got it because Monty respects major winners more than say, a Torrance or a James.
Levet proved why he wasn’t in the know with that twitter post. JUST like a Frenchman – can’t be trusted. (ducking) (JUST kidding, Wendy) :-D
Monty took the four he had to by the rules (top four on the World list) and went with the guys loyal to the European Tour and Harrington – the Euro with the most majors on his resume.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
you’re kidding – that’s what the song title means ? The song is just a happy sounding pop tune.
