It's Rubbing Off! Rickie Fowler Penalized for Grounded Club Issue
Just a few minutes ago, I got a text message from a friend asking me if Rickie Fowler had been penalized yesterday at The Barclays. Thanks to Google News, the answer is: affirmative.
Fowler grounded his club behind the ball at the 11th hole at Ridgewood CC and, in the process, caused the ball to move. That's a one stroke penalty under the Rules of Golf. Fowler played a provisional but accepted the penalty after a conference with rules officials following the round.
Rickie was a staunch supporter of Dustin Johnson after Bunkergate (::shudder:: to that term).
Proud of the way my boy DJ handled the ruling...I think a bunker that fans have been standing in all day should be considered a waste bunker
Now he falls victim to something similar. In this case, just some bad luck. Then again, Kenny Perry got off the hook!

Seriously?
I understand that the rules are the rules, but does a tenth of a inch of movement make a darned bit of difference on a 10 foot putt? Rule should be modified so that the ball must have moved at least .5 or 1 revolution to warrant a penalty.
yes – if you cause the ball to move – you get a stroke added. Are you guys sure you’ve played this game before ? Guess what else – Fowler called it on himself because he knows that the rules are important. He hoped the ball had oscillated (which is ok) but was pretty sure the ball had moved.. It’s part of the discipline of the game.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Part of the HONOR of it too
For the most part in golf you are your own referee.
It may be a tired old saw, but how you play and how you act reveals a lot about your character.
Yesterday, for example, I played a round after a trip to the surgeon’s office (my right hand has severe carpal tunnel) where he told me to not play the ball down in the rough. I didn’t, and could not enter my score into the Handicap system because it was not “real” golf.
Play the ball as it lies, count all your strokes and follow the rules. It’s not really all that hard if you are an honest man.

I hope there's light at the end of your carpal tunnel, Charles.
I also hope my groaner above didn’t increase your pain.
Laughter always makes the pain go away. :)

Yep, it's the other hand
I could have had it done last February, but golf in March here in NC is a great time…temps usually in the 50s and deals in places like Pinehurst.
I am paying for it now, though, the delay literally wakes me up in the middle of the night. I am going to do the surgery just before Christmas and celebrate the holiday on Vicodin once again. I can take that stuff for about 3-4 days and then I loathe it, but by then, things don’t hurt any more.

“places in deals” = “places HAVE deals”

(grabbing OMP’s scorecard adding a local rule “Charles is allowed to tee it up in the rough.”) :-)
What all did the doctor tell you ? Is this a temporary order ? Was there something he was concerned about after checking you out ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
He was worried that as tight as my wrist and hand are that after cortisone I could actually damage something.
It didn’t make sense to me, but then again, I am no board certified hand surgeon who is considered the best guy in a town with two medical schools. Not only other doctors think Edwards is very good, lawyers do too…he NEVER gets sued.

You have to admire the Pros
calling the penalties on themselves…the rules are the rules…this is what sets our game we love form all the other sports….that said, let’s put DJ behind us…it’s ancient history…I love the fact that even the young guns have this much respect for the game….STUB
