Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Wie needs a new nickname...

Ebby Calvin LaLoosh became "Nuke" with the Durham Bulls.  And who can forget his first interview after his first win ?

Clubhouse reporter: So how does it feel to get your first professional win?

Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: It feels out there. I mean, it's a major rush. I mean, it feels radical in kind of a tubular sort of way, but most of all, it feels out there.

Crash Davis: [watching Ebby from across the clubhouse] Hopeless. This is utterly f***ing hopeless.

NOW - we have Michelle Wie.  "The Big Wiesy" - too much of a ripoff, especially since her swing no long resembles the well oiled swing of Ernie "The Big Easy" Els.  We can't call her "Nuke" - but maybe something that ties her to her mentor in the interview arena ?

This bit of classic Wie came after her first round at the Canadian Open...

MIKE SCANLAN:  We'd like to welcome in the first round leader Michelle Wie.  Nice 65 today capped off by a nice shot on the 11th hole.  If you would give us a brief recap of your day.

MICHELLE WIE:  It was a fun day out there today, it was a good pairing.  Just went out there and tried to have fun.  Obviously it worked out well for me on 11.  But it was pretty cool.

Q.  Did you feel like you had a 65 in you when you started the round today?

MICHELLE WIE:  You know, I just went out there and just tried to go out there and have fun and focus on every shot.  Even when I was out there, I just didn't really think about my score and just went out there and tried to hit every shot as best I could.

Ok - the second question was pretty dumb, but you have to admit, the answer was "out there".

SO - what shold we call her ?  She needs a new nickname. What do you call the cousin of "Nuke" LaLoosh ? :-)

Well at least she didn't use the word..

“GRINDED” as she usually does. No such word.

Your right Court, her name is a cross between Ernie Els, “Big Easy”

As well as, Louise Jefferson, “Weisey”

Anyway I don’t have a witty new name at the moment, but in just a few short weeks, I’ll have 12 Lbs of Shrimp thanks to Wie and STUBBO.

lol – good one – but you might have to explain it to her all the time.

Pro – too bad Louise Jefferson didn’t have a catch phrase during the show to play on.

I just sampled a handful of songs on iTunes

Is there a song or two in particular you recommend, Court?

I see the logic of Court's adding a space before

his question marks, a huge issue indeed.

The spacing is a little tight and he’s merely making his comments easier to read. Not digest, mind you, just read.

Just kidding.

But perhaps Ryan could create a separate blog for this heated subject. Maybe when a slow newsday grips WaggleRoom.

em, I’ve been taking CG to task for that very thing for a couple of years now. He seems to think detaching punctuation from the sentence makes it look better.

:::sigh::: This is just one of many things we argue about. 8-)

Hey Court, cause no one else has taken

you to task here, I guess it falls to me….Firstly….I don’t know what you see when watching the BIG WIEZE , But it sure can’t be her swing….Long, Fluid like the Big Easy…You should have such a swing….I know I sure wish I did….You might than be able to critique it….No, we don need no stinkin nick names….The BIG WIEZE COMES …DAMM THESE OLD FINGERS…didn’t finish …as I was saying, it comes from being compared to Ernie, and her last name WIEZE…..You seem to think that if you put something out there we will swallow it….WRONG….As I said before….when your wrong, fess up….you’ll only get taken to the wood shed one time…..STUB

by thinker on Aug 27, 2010 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions

NOT so fast, my friend :-)

Better look again, Stub. Pull up a video of her swing 5 years ago when the circus started. Her swing was long and smooth – it matched up perfectly with Els’ swing.

Today, she has shortened and quickened her tempo quite a bit.

I didn’t say she doesn’t have a good swing – I said it’s not the old “Els” swing.

And she’s still an abomination to listen to in an interview. Y’know ? She’s just out there.

The LPGA and Golf Channel

must be crying in their bunkers. Wie is playing great and leading the Canadian Open and it’s on television, at midnight!!

In real conversation with real people she probably comes off as articulate and intelligent. She may have a problem with a camera in her face or she’s been to the Crash Davis School of Media Relations where she learned to say absolutely nothing of substance to an interviewer. I think Tiger has his PhD from there.

Court, surly from your college

days, when your age group was saying “Oh you Kid” and Twenty Three Skidoo, and Tippy Canoe ? I can see you now, with your straw bowler, stripped jacket, pants 3-4 inches too short and strumming your uke….Wern’t those the good ol days? When my grandsons come home from College and are here with their friends, I sometimes think it’s a bunch of Martians talking…I don’t understand half of it….When I went to college, I’m sure my parents felt the same way….Just like their music, each generation has it’s own way of expressing themselves…Listen to the guys being interviewed…the young guns and see how many “ya know” creeps in…Poor EM…by the time his grandkids go to college, he will need an interpeter….What you are claiming for the BIG WIEZY’S swing, is not really a shortening or a speed up….She’s stronger now, and so the swing is faster…Still in excellent rhythm and balance…still very much like Ernies…..STUB

by thinker on Aug 28, 2010 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously, Stub – you need to put on the specks and take a little closer look. Her swing looks more like Nick Price’s than Ernie Els – Not that there’s anythings wrong with that.

(and yes – there were a few mumbled explitives tossed at the screen for your moronic atttempt at an insult – my high school days were the late 70’s)

lol – BULL Durham…the movie. But I did live in Durham for a couple of years of junior high. Part of one year was pretty close to the Duke campus. Beautiful place – as well as the UNC campus.

I went to a small NAIA school in north Georgia for a year, then finished up at Georgia State – now on the cover of ESPN the Magazine, believe it or not. First year football team – taking on (not taking down) the #1 team in the nation in a few weeks – Ala-damn-bama. (lol)

Good luck getting that past a copy editor

You may try to write a Leon Uris-length novel with the punctuation style of e.e. milne, but I bet as soon as your publisher’s copy editors get it in their hands they’ll be fixing it up lickety-split.

What’s the working title, BTW? “Me and Wiesy – Love/Hate Story?” :D

Anybody watching the third round ?

Just saw Barb…errrrr….Wie hit her third at the 9th – after the shot, she did some stretching and grabbled her lower back. Hope it’s just a tweak on the shot and not a real problem

If The Big Wiesy chokes today (and wheezing can cause that) and never wins

another tourney, her nickname will gradually morph into The Big Wussy.

Wordplay aside, I think she’ll win plenty of tourneys and a handful of majors.

TX..you just stepped in the big

do-do in the sky….Saying something like that will bring the wrath of Court down on you…He will smote you with his staff, and the ground will open and swallow all who blaspheme this subject….I suggest you go stand in the corner, cover your head with your hands to ward off the lighting bolt Court will throw down upon you….I myself, would not stand closer than 10 feet from you…jist sayin here….Stand back EM,,,,don’t get hit by the fall out…….STUB

Stub......keeping my eyes open......Court's just

jealous……when he was young, someone told him he was accepted into Samford, and he thought they said Stanford……well, he show’s up in Kal-i-forn-ya and they sent him packing. So now, out of revenge to “higher education” he puts a space before his question marks and exclamation points……….sad, sad, sad, what vengeance will do to you. A bitter old man hating on Michelle……..:)
