A Case of Heightism on the LPGA Tour?
There's no easy way to say this, but face it: short people are often get the proportional end of the stick in life.
A Forbes magazine study of their 500's CEOs showed the average height to be 6'0" - taller than the average American male. Essayist Jonathan Rauch conducted a now fifteen year old study to show the American idealized height for a male is 6'2" - my height! - and growing.
Researchers presented findings in 2009 that tried to indicate children of all heights, more or less, evened out. Short people had evidence to the contrary, including Australian research which suggests shorter people early less. Talk about a different kind of glass ceiling.
And with that preface, let's talk about Dina Ammaccapane.
The 42-year-old LPGA veteran made her way to the Pacific Northwest for the Safeway Classic in Oregon. Making too little to have a regular caddy, Ammaccapane was forced to used the Tour service that matches available caddies to needy players.
She was assigned 19-year-old Cameron Kiyokawa, who is 5'3" and 115 whopping pounds. On sight of Kiyokama, The Oregonian's John Canzaro says Ammaccapane responded with, "Do you have anyone bigger?"
How history would've been different if Francis Ouimet had said the same thing to Eddie Lowery! Lord knows how Ammaccapane would have responded to him waddling up to her. Kiyokawa certainly isn't ten years old and took this with much more maturity than a pre-pubescent kid would, but the reaction of the pro seems kind of, well, small.
Ammaccapane requested someone larger to carry her 75 pound bag even though Cameron was more than capable, showed up early to await his pro, and turned down a chance to play in the Monday pro-am out of deference to his bag.
It's not like Ammaccapane is an Amazon herself. At 5'5", she is just 1" taller than the average female in this country. And the height of the guy on the bag would likely have made no difference in improving her 79-77--MC this week at Pumpkin Ridge.

Yes – but apparently you are too tall to be a CEO – personally, I’m 6’ tall…so get back to the mail room ! (or are you giving up that career to go with Chippendale’s full time ?) :-D
Women like their men to be taller – it’s tradition – deal with it. Never forget – women are never sexist, ageist, racist, or any other -ist – all of those things are reserved for us caucasian males.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Men like their women to be shorter - it's tradition
nevertheless I would like to congratulate you on your otherwise perfectly balanced post – chip on both shoulders, that is.
Go ahead Wendy...lay a Snarky
on Court….Stand back TX so ya don’t get hit by falling debris…..ya gotta love it…..STUB
Carrying one of me around on both shoulders would be a neat trick – no matter how balanced.

The two comments above, though not heading in the same direction,
were quite entertaining. No middle ground?
