Alvin Greene Could Reinvent How We Treat Beginning Golfers

It's safe to say that South Carolina Democrat Alvin Greene's US Senate bid against Jim Demint is considered a laughing stock in national circles. The man who paid to get his name on the primary ballot then never campaigned - and won - is now getting a rough scrubbing of his life. Greene faces an indictment for showing pornography to a college student. He has denied the charges and continues to solider on in his campaign despite trailing by some 42 points.

Sounds like some pranksters tried to get Greene when they found his phone number on the Internet, called him, and asked him to play a round of golf at their club Myrtle Beach club. Problem is that he actually answered, and really showed up to play at Indigo Creek - despite never having played in his life.

The news account from WPDE-TV in South Carolina almost makes it seem like they're in on the joke. After all, is someone following Greene night and day to the point that they miraculously uncovered him at a private club?

Their sleuthing treats us to this video of Greene getting in some campaign golf. Sporting a campaign T-shirt and track pants, Greene says he shot 62 for his first ever nine holes. He quit after 13 - which seems to be a good number for beginners.

ok – I’m lost – what’s the connection between the headline, the video, and the story ? And how do you get that the TV station was in on the joke, especially since the two guys who invited him said it wasn’t a joke.

There’s no way I’m taking those guys at their word that it wasn’t a joke, especially since they said they called him originally as a prank.

better watch again – the JOKE was the phone call to a number found on the internet – but the invitation to play wasn’t a joke. The guy says he didn’t expect it to be THE Alvin Greene.

And, as usual, the media guy asks inappropriate questions and refuses to take the answer that the allegations are in the courts and he isn’t allowed to comment. Greene was right – and as usual, the media guy was wrong.

Not To Be Picky But...`
The news account from WPDE-TV in Carolina

There is no place called “Carolina.”

There is South Carolina. There is North Carolina. There are the Carolinas. But, alas, no place called “Carolina.” Even the “Carolina” that most people think of – the respective ‘University of’ in each state, is actually the University of South Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Look at this way: where is Dakota? North Dakota or South Dakota?

Does that mean James Taylor has to re-write his song ? :-)

I have heard from a number of people that the song is about the school not the state. Taylor went to Chapel Hill and was committed to Dorthea Dix during his time there. Ostensibly, that’s the genesis of the tune.
