Withdraw Down Under: Daly Signs Appearance Deal for Aussie Triple Crown Events

Fresh off of yet another withdraw at the PGA Championship, John Daly is back in action this week in Greensboro after citing a torn rotator cuff for dropping out of Whistling Straits just 25 holes in and with no chance to make the cut. Pardon the cynicism, but doesn't seem like the injury was that bad.

What's for certain is Daly's shoulder is good enough to endorse checks. Daly announced he has inked a deal to play in the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open - two parts of Australia's Triple Crown - in December. By inking a deal, that implies Daly is being paid to play. Well, at least show up. After that is anyone's guess.

Of course, any post referencing Daly and Australia by law must include some kind of link to the smashed camera incident from the '08 Open. Daly vowed never to return to the event after the incident, by this marks the second year in a row that he will play post-camera-em.

For a small appearance fee, I'd be happy to fly down and cover it, but I may stop two rounds in for mild carpal tunnel syndrome.

I'm sorry but

Daly is a waste of space and an embarrassment to the game. Torn rotator cuff? Uh huh… I’m really disappointed that the Aussies have paid him (and they have) to go back and make a fool out of the tournaments and therein, the game itself and I’m sure he will.
Years ago, I followed him around my home course in Melbourne when he was playing a social hit and giggle with some sponsors. A nicer guy you wouldn’t want to meet, with more natural talent than anyone I have ever seen, but it’s time that he either got himself together, or went elsewhere. In fact, it’s past that time.

C&H

Just like Tigers swollen disc in his neck ? uh huh , while he was out of competition at the Players Championship. BTW, The Aussies are paying Tiger again this year to be in the Aussie Masters. This after last years Driver Slamming incident that hit a fan in the head that was on the tee watching.

Okay, PG, the H isn't even neighboring the P on the keyboard.

How on earth did you strike that key? I’m guessing you type from a distance … with your boxing gloves on.

I’m not talking about Tiger, Pro. I’m talking about a man who has had more WD’s than the UN in Afghanistan. I’m talking about a man who has had more chances given to him than is funny. A man who is selling his merchandise out of carparks next to Tour venues. Someone who is drunk on the golf course, misses tee times, shoots in the 80’s because he flat out stops trying, a man who gets dragged out of Hooters bars by the police and all the time, pleads for understanding. How many chances do you give him? This sad saga has been going for years and it’s time he grew up and took ownership of his problems and his life – on and off the golf course.
This is not about Tiger – it’s about John Daly. Save the Tiger rhetoric for a Tiger thread.

C & P...as much as I

wanted to see John get it together, after all his self destruct idiotic actions, I have to agree with you….it’s way past time to be a stand up person….Sure a shame to just throw all that talent down the drain…..STUB

I will say that JD is trying lately

He has played somewhat better, he has lost a lot of weight, he is no longer drinking and he has a girlfriend that cares.

That's on the positive side, I agree

but these W/Ds with spurious excuses are tiresome. I’m amazed that the Aussies are prepared to pay him an appearance fee again.

BTW – I don’t think TW’s driver slam in Oz actually hit anyone, did it?

Two people to be precise Wendy.

One on the head and one on the shoulder.

It wasn't a slam......it was a

helicopter “sling”……kinda like skipping a rock on water….it takes precise timing and a lot of talent to get just the right “whirlybird” effect…..but when done correctly, it’s a thing of beauty……unless you’re the one it hits…..go figure..

Hey Wendy...I think the tour people

down under think that John is still a draw at the gate…they are an independent lot from what I’ve seen….and, Jist asking mind ya lass….do they have Hooters there?…STUB

by thinker on Aug 21, 2010 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Daly has made it through at Wyndham at least

I’m sure you’re right STUB about him being a draw down under, – plus still popular over here. No idea about Hooters – to me they are just vuvuzuelas. Perhaps our Chip’nPutt can answer that question? She is from that hemisphere

Vuvuzuelas ? that's what we're

supposed to call those magnificant things? What ever ya say Wendy…..STUB

No Hooters in Aus,

so they have that going for them.

That's ok

Wendy. I’m not an Aussie, although I do have citizenship. Ask me who won the rugby?

In 2003?

NZ hosting it next year – will you attend?
