A New Heritage: The Texas Open Takes Harbour Town's Slot
In announcing the 2009 PGA Tour schedule, the folks in Ponte Vedra brought back the Texas Swing. Having been missing from the schedule for a few years, the swing was reinvigorated when the Texas Open was brought into it. A couple of years into the experiment, the Texas Open has escaped the lasso.
Richard Oliver reports that the San Antonio-based Valero Texas Open will be moving into the slot long occupied by the Heritage event at Harbour Town. The sponsorless South Carolina staple appears unlikely to get title footing in time for 2011, so the state and local communities have banded together to raise the nearly $6 million needed for a one year stay of the event.
Oliver reports that Harbour Town will be shifted to somewhere else in April or May. It could be a simple switcheroo.
Waggle Room contacted the PGA Tour for comment and was told by a representative that the Tour is not yet in a position to confirm the Oliver report. A Tour source indicates, though, that the Fall Series will not be the landing spot for the Heritage.

No disrespect to Texas, and I love San Antonio, but a “Texas Swing” that starts in Texas following several weeks in Florida, then a trip to Augusta, then BACK to Texas for a week, then…New Orleans is it (?)….and back to Texas for two more weeks ? Sounds more like a Texas Stutter.
Harbour Town got the fields they got because it was (1) close to Augusta, and (2) in a very relaxing place that treated the players like royalty. San Antonio isn’t either one of fhose things. It’ll be interesting to see who wants to make the trip.

It’s a shame that the Tour has decided to take away this tournament’s position away. As Court said, it got great fields because of proximity, especially for the ET players, and it was an excellent site at a great time of year relative to its climate.
Now, it’s just another ho-hum tournament in Texas that will be lucky to get the majority of B-listers on the PGA Tour.
OK all ya USA a TEXAS HATERS....
Listen up here….If it weren’t for usins down here, there wouldn’t even be a Jaw-Ja….Hell, Sherman couldn’t wait to get out a there…..so watch your backs…..There is more money taken out of the USA a TEXAS by the Tour, than any other state….Florida, the Carolina’s included….And I’ll put the Nelson, and Ft Worth stops against any on tour…..Court, If you have really been around San Antonio you would know that the culture, Gentleness of the people, the food and other amenities are equal to any in this country….Treat Players like Royalty….Texas is know for it’s hospitality…Texas stutter, my big hairy rear end to you sir….And Ya, sit back and see who the A Lister’s sign up to play these events…..jist sayin guys…Don’t know where you reside OMP, but it’s very clear that you know nothing about Texas….STUB
Didn’t I say that San Antonio is my favorite place in Texas ? I just said that it isn’t Hilton Head. It isn’t a relaxing week at the beach with Hootie and the Blowfish types. It’s a place to exhale after The Masters.
Now they have to tour Florida, go to Houston, then to Augusta, then BACK to Texas. They are going to lose a lot of guys who were willing to travel a few hours to Hilton Head to decompress.
