PGA Championship Decider: Top 5 Contenders in Glory's Last Shot
Welcome to Kohler, Wisconsin! Whistling Straits is set to hold its second PGA Championship - with another on the way in 2015 (that's family planning) - and we have 98 of the top 100 in the world set to play the last major of the year.
This week's Decider is a simple one: who are the five players you like in this week's field to win?
The odds have Philly Mick, Rors McIlroy, and - somehow - Tiger as the three favorites. Then there's hometown hero Steve Stricker. And what about Paddy Harrington or Retief Goosen? Can Ernie Els come back from a serious letdown at Pebble Beach? Maybe Louis Oosthuizen will back up the Open Championship win.
I will give my top five tomorrow on SBNation.com as part of our coverage of the 92nd PGA, but who do you like this week?

Fools And Money Are Easily Separated
Anyone who seriously believes Phil or Tiger are “favorites” in this tournament are either hopeless optimists, homers or fools. Neither one are playing anything resembling good golf over the course of four rounds, and going to what could be one of the most demanding tracks on the entire schedule this year doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that either are suddenly going to turn things around and be what they were a couple years ago.
But, please, by all means bet on them and leave the odds high at Ladbroke’s for folks who have some common sense about who is playing well and has a real chance to win on Sunday afternoon.
Sure, miracles might happen, but they usually don’t…and thinking that Phil or Tiger will win this weekend is essentially hoping for exactly that.
RB – you’re worrying me with this media schtick ! Of the four majors – none has a worse or more corny tag than “Glory’s last Shot” – for so many reasons. :-)
Ok – the list – Mickelson…not a chance…too much wind..too much trouble off the fairways he won’t be hitting. McIllroy has never seen Whistling Straights before this week – nope. Tiger ? Please – he’s 10-1 so the bookies will make some cash. Can Els come back from a serious letdown ? Gee, was that the first time he played poorly in a final round in his life ? Or should he just give up and throw himself into the lake right now ? (geez)
Personally, I think you’re on the right track with your Stricker and Furyk picks. I do think Ernie will play well this week. Like to see someone like Ian Poulter or Paul Casey to be there at the end, but Poulter doesn’t have the patience and Casey hasn’t been playing all that well lately.
How about one of the Molinari’s as a dark horse ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
even though Sergio won't be there...
I like the idea of picking DFL. Would that be pre- or post-cut? Post-cut seems more interesting because pre- all you have to do is pick one of the the Club Professionals that will be in the field.

i like
kuchar, donald, furyk, stricker, goosen
leonard and jimenez are my dark horses
Goosen, Els, Overton, Rose, Furyk, Stricker,
Mickelson, Mahan, Barnes, Harrington, Kucher, O’Hair, Leonard, Van Pelt, Cink, Casey…..hmmm, can’t decide on just 5, so I’ll go with 15…..:)
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
I am going to take a chance and take Paddy Harrington, though I am really thinking a hitherto unknown European Tour player will carry the day.
I would say that Ooisthuizen or Graeme Mcdowell would have a solid shot at winning on this very Irish-links-like course, but I think their major-win hangover will continue.
Well, I don't like just 5 either,
but what I do like is the young guns….I’m for anyone under say…28 or so….Lots of courage, and just enough lack of brains to know that they can’t do it…..CHARGE LADS, and we shall lift the chalice to the winner indeed on Sunday…..STUB
Phil?
If he uses a 5-iron or less from tee to green he can. With more bunkers than Carter has Little Liver Pills, Whisting Straits will not forgive disobedience to the fairway from the tee box. That’s never been Phil’s cup of tea.

Didn’t he hit a ball out of bounds at St Andrews with a 6-iron ? 5 might be be too dicey. how about if he just goes Tin Cup and only plays with a 7-iron ? :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I like hometown boy Stricker this week. But also Luke Donald, seeing as he’s 1st in scrambling and has a sick sand game to deal with those 1,000 or whatever bunkers
Well, George Jefferson surely avoided Archie but was okay
with Edith.
I figured you knew this stuff, Court.
Are there any golf balls on offer?
Otherwise I may keep my top 5 to myself.
Oh OK then, Stricker, Furyk, Kuchar, Harrington, Casey. Phil might contend – whatever his medical condition.
I will post the final contest tomorrow in fan post
Wendy also, Your prize from the Open is on its way, I’ll e mail you the tracking number.
