UPDATED: Tiger's New Teacher: Sean Foley or Brian Mogg?

PrintA curious thing happened yesterday when we did a post here with pictures of Steve Williams and Tiger Woods practicing at Whistling Straits. It was probably one of the saddest photo galleries I have ever seen short of war atrocities and poverty.
The photos, though, spurred a few responses to me proposing a new name could be on Tiger's tongue to replace Hank Haney (and Butch Harmon before that): Brian Mogg. Brian Mogg is the man that instructs YE Yang - the defending PGA Champion who beat Woods last year at Hazeltine.
The swanky name most recently associated with Woods is teacher du jour Sean Foley. In fact, Golf Channel's Rich Lerner is reporting that Woods and Foley may be close to a deal. The deal is not reported as imminent, and Mogg may be why.
A participant in the Capital City Charity Pro-Am at newly-renamed Trump National in northern Virginia taking place July 25-27 said that Mogg was mentioned several times by the PGA Tour players participating in the pro-am as one of Tiger's options.
Separately, a source with knowledge of Mogg said that he has not been formally contacted by Woods directly yet. Mogg, though, has been told by those with connections to Woods that he is on a "short list" for the job.
Why Mogg? Aside from the Yang connection, Mogg is based in Orlando - very close to Isleworth. Also, Mogg is a Nike staff rep, which would keep things in-house so to speak.
On Tuesday night, we heard back from Mogg about our report and request for comment. Mogg knows close Tiger friend John Cook, and his interactions with Woods in the past have been through Cook. As for working with Tiger, Mogg said via e-mail, "I would have some suggestions for him but I will wait for him to see if he wants that help."
Woods may well go with Foley - a name rumored associated with Woods in golf circles since the Players Championship. But it does appear that Woods is, or at least has, given a look at another instructor.

The way he’s playing right now, it’s pretty clear he needs an outside eye to help him out. Who it will be is a good question…
Someone suggested Ledbetter on another forum, which I kind of laughed at. I don’t think the two would get on well, for reasons I cannot exactly put my finger on. No matter, DL is one name I have yet to hear mentioned on Tiger Golf Channel or on the blogs that seriously cover golf.
There's not an eye in the world...
…that can help him as long as he’s mentally checked out.
That said, I do agree that he does need someone’s eye. It doesn’t really matter who it is, as long as the two are on the same page and the person knows what Tiger is trying to do so Tiger can be provided with information about what’s going on during his swing.

In my younger, formative youth, yes….I was about 12 or so when the comely lass from the next farm initiated me into the wonders and delights of love…..than there were a few wives along the way…All done mind you to keep a good level of performance….I don’t know if you remember that farms used to have SILOS….That’s where feed for the cattle was stored …..the seepage from that was some of the most potent stuff you ever put in your mouth….around 150 proof at least…..During my time in the service, when we couldn’t get decent booze, we made our own with shaving lotion and grape juice….I still shudder from that stuff….We also had a cook, that made moon shine behind one of the meat lockers….when we came in from a flight, a glass of that stuff and a big steak….WOW…..I do believe, if one wants to do things right, good competent instruction is a must….jist sayin…..STUB
Never knew that the grain in silos fermented, Stub. I bet that was some rough stuff, but if it’s all you have, it’s gotta be good!

OMP..it wasn't the grain as much as
what we called “silage”…We could go down to the Pea Vinery, where they were sending the pea vines through to get the peas out….The left overs,the vines, we got and put into the silos When this stuff started to drip, mostly from the weight itself,.. it was almost like squeezing a cloth bag and watching the juice run out….i tell ya, that stuff could have stripped paint….never took more than half a cup to make ya goofy…..Ah, the good ol days (yea, bull sh*t)…..Don’t know how interesting some of the stuff I did and saw was, but a whole lot of it was stupid….STUB
Hahahha, I had no idea who these guys were until I passed the Disney Store the other day.

since when did anything Lerner or for that matter most of the idots from the GC say really have much credence ? And Courts right….Sad Photos ? Comon Ryan….you could do a heck of a lot better than that….It’s what happens every practice round….you have to get out on the course and watch what’s taking place, if ya want to write about it….can’t sit in the press tent and make things up….sorry mate….the rumor mill is gonna continue to grind until it makes us all puke…..I really don’t think Tiger will do an;ything more this year…The only reason he is at the PGA is because it’s a major….he’s till chasing Jack’s record…for any other reason, he’d be home,, whereever that is now….I don’t think he even gives a heck….just wants the season to end….per his schedule….so he can get his head on straight for 2K11…..STUB

All I see is a golfer working on his game with his caddy. There’s nothing “sad” about Tiger’s golf, he’s struggling right now is all. Hard to muster sympathy for a guy’s game who’s won that much and earned about a gazillion dollars doing so. What’s going on in his personal life, now that’s sad.

I don’t think Tigers goes to Steve for advice like a lot of guys. He goes to Stevie when someone has an ichy trigger finger with a Nikon.
