Who Wants to Watch a Train Wreck? Firestone Ratings Down 51%
Remember last year when everyone (including me) was lauding the impact that Tiger has on PGA Tour ratings? That when he doesn't play, the ratings are cut in half? Well, we didn't know what the ratings would be like when he finished DFL-1. Now we do.
The ratings for Sunday's final round of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational were down 51% from last year in which Woods won. They were even with '08 when he didn't play. They were down a third from the 2007, when El Tigre won for the sixth time there.
The total package - Woods' performance (well, his whole season, really) and the rating - are likely an anomaly. Still, we might be able to dismiss the notion that Tiger always drives ratings.

exactly.
Ratings and money are too over-hyped in pro sports in America generally, almost like they are the game that really matters.

Ratings Shmatings
Golf has survived just fine for over 100 years including 2 depressions and several recessions. Does tiger bring more eyes to the TV set ? Sure he does. The fact remains that is golf had to rely on TW fans to survive then golf and my industry would be in trouble. The majority of TW “fringe fans” only watch golf when he is on TV and most of them don’r even play golf. Want to get a “true view” of who tigers fans really are ? Head on over to www.tigerwoods.com and read the comments from the fans in the blogs. Wholly Crap, it’s so Third grade Elementary school and pathetic. Examble- Virtual food buffet parties for each tournament. Whats tiger wearing this week blogs. Pretty much a virtual droolfest. Perhaps if the Main Stream Golf Media would start showing and talking about other great players on tour a little more often they could educate the (so called) ratings booster finge fans, into becoming more interested in the sport as a whole.
One more thing about ratings boosters.
The SIMPSONS TV program has boosted Fox TV ratings by 33% in it’s time slot since it’s inception.
Sponge Bob Square Pants has boosted the Cartoon Networks ratings by 38% in its time slot since its inception.

Sure you "must say." Just give it a rest, and, as always, you bypassed the dictiionary.
Or at least look up “transparency.” Yours is glaring.
And re how your secetaries always giggled at your phonetic spellings
in your memos, it’s called company laughing. Laugh with the boss, maybe get a raise.
Spread these WGC events around the world.
The title will have true meaning, Americans can have some jet lag and the ratings crap won’t be an issue.
