Forget Texas, Say Hello to the Asian Swing?
Tim Finchem told AP's Doug Ferguson that there is a good chance the PGA Tour schedule could have an Asian Swing that occurs each season after the FedExCup is done.
"We're looking at possibilities in Japan, Korea, China," tour commissioner Tim Finchem said. "I'm not saying we will, but we may very well do a short series over there in the autumn in the next two or three years. If we're going to get serious about a presence in Asia, it would probably argue for a short series."
Remember that whole thing I said months ago about the last frontiers of golf and an Asian swing on the PGA Tour is inevitable? Yeah, this is what I meant.
The PGA Tour knows a growing Asian golf base requires them to expand their borders and learn about the new floating Yuan. They have already made inroads with this short series notion by declaring the HSBC Champions as a WGC event. The Malaysian event in October is small, but a step in a future, broader direction.
Finchem flatly declined that a Japanese event is in the works despite reports starting in April that such a deal may be reached this year. The long term plan could certainly include a stop there, though.
And, no, I was not considering replacing "hello" with "harro," bigoted reader.
