Magna Cum Numquam: Michelle Wie Missed the College Joke

PrintMichelle Wie is one of the clear headliners of this week's US Women's Open at Oakmont. There's a poster in Pittsburgh shouting "Wow, Wie!" and her arrival into town with one LPGA Tour win. She held a presser this morning and, well, it kind of got off to a bad start.
The moderator got off to a good opening and closed with a quick transition question before opening it up to the vultures media.
"Just tell us a little bit. You won a tournament now. You're still in college. Are you a Phi Beta Kappa yet?"
Reply? Oh yes, priceless.
"No sorority for me yet, but it's been fun. It's been a lot of fun."
For those of you not sure why this is funny, Phi Beta Kappa is an academic fraternity/honor society that was founded at William & Mary in 1776. Perhaps Delta Tau Chi?
Now excuse me while I return to my VSOP cognac and Cuban cigar.
(In the interest of disclosure, I didn't get into Phi Beta Kappa. Not even close. I skipped way too much class in college to do that, hence the cognac remark.)

Delta Tau Chi is the fraternity from “Animal House” – the popular girls were all Tri-Pi’s
