A New Business Model for Greg Norman Courses: Double as a Runway
A few weeks ago, Greg Norman talked about the tough decision to lay off a slew of his organization citing the abysmal global economy, then opening a spankin' new office in China. Apparently, he sees the future of his golf course design business in Asia. (Probably a good guess.) But, his business will still primarily operate out of West Palm Beach, Florida.
A different kind of foursome played a Norman course in nearby Panama City Beach over the weekend.
Air Force pilot Tony Weedn and three friends were flying from Destin airport to Orlando for a surprise birthday party. Nearing the destination, Weedn realized that their Cessna 172 was not going to make it to the tarmac. Using his training, he quickly scoured the ground for a field in which he could land the plane safely.
Norman's Shark's Tooth in PCB turned out to be that field - a course Norman labeled as in the top three of his best designs. Weedn landed the plane perfectly just behind the par 5 17th hole. And, as should be done when defying death, a "holy sh*t" video was filmed with instant living reaction.
A 10 from the Russian judge!
And just in case if you were wondering if a group of four buds pulled a fast one over the Shark by towing a plane behind the 17th hole, we have the flight data to prove it.
And, we'll finish this off with a look at the makeshift runway.

Norman may HAVE a “brand spankin’ new” office in China – but you can believe that he doesn’t OWN a new office in China. That’s not the way the country is run. He is being paid to design and build a few courses, built with the cheapest labor he’ll ever find (but you won’t hear people protesting here in the US – that only happens when Nike is the target).

Eas, I'm okay with your thinking the same thing, so long as you realize I thought of it first.
These things matter to me.
And what’s with the indent? Did you hit the wrong key?
this brings up an important point
If you ever find yourself having to make an unscheduled landing on a golf course, always try to land in the direction of green to tee. That way golfers will have the opportunity to see you and get out of the way.
"(I)f you think you've got an inside track to absolute truth, you become doctrinaire, humorless and intellectually constipated." Saul Alinsky
Actually, you should be more concerned with.....
the grain…..everyone knows you can’t land a plane against the grain…….just won’t work!!!…..:)
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
WOW, sure a lot a
people on here with WAAAAAaaaay too much time on their hands…..STUB
oh sure – you say that NOW – but when a plane lands on YOUR course with the grain instead of against it, minimizing the damage – you’ll be glad that advice came out here. (lol)
