Canadian Open Is All Kinds of Backwards This Year
There are three bizarre things happening at this week's RBC Canadian Open.
First, the tournament is being played at St. George's - one of the better Canadian tracks, but a rarity for the tournament in recent years where Glen Abbey had almost become the permanent home of the event. St. George's has the Open for the first time since the Pierre Trudeau administration.
Second, the practice range is about two miles from St. George's. It is at another course entirely - Islington GC. The tournament offers shuttles from the course to the range for fans and players. Some fans apparently took taxis. Either way, watching on the range is free.
And finally, the players are teeing off on Thursday and Friday from the first and ninth holes. Typically, the Tour does this from one and ten. But since the 10th hole is almost 600 yards from the clubhouse and the 9th hole is very close, the Tour made the decision to do this instead.

Rain delay at the Canadian Open. Kelly Tilghman's very first words to
Charlie Rymer as the GC show begins: “Charlie, you’ve been at the top of the professional tour. How do you handle these rain delays?”
It’s no easy task entertaining viewers during rain delays, but how hackneyed a question is that one?
