This Wind Merited Suspending Play at the British Open? LOL
Even the British scorers at the Open Championship think that suspending play there is absolutely ridiculous. They posted an alert about the high wind delay with a jab at the R&A.
Remember when Tiger Woods shot 81 in almost impossible weather in the 2003 Open at Royal St. George's? Or when Shigeki Maruyama was cowering in fear of the obscene weather that they played through?
To have a weather delay in these conditions is ridiculous. Of course, the conspiracy theories could be abound that the R&A is trying to protect McIlroy, Woods, Westwood, and other favorites for less than scoring conditions. Or maybe they just don't want Louis Oosthuizen to be three clear of the field.

So the next time you have sustained winds of 40 mph, you’ll be out on your favorite course ? And you’ll count any penalty strokes that come if you ground your putter behind the ball and the ball moves ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Yup, cause they have played the Open in WAY worse conditions.

lol – if you say so. conditions are relative – slower, wetter greens – the ball can take more wind. the greens at St Andrews, especially at The Loop are very exposed to the winds. If the ball won’t stay still in sustained winds, you can’t play.
and no – you wouldn’t be out playing in 40 mph sustained winds

Ryan, how would you know ?
I played the Old course twice so far…once, in October, the wind on the 11th caused the ball to move before I addressed it. Now, the greens slower than usual are much quicker than October. You have no idea.
Apparently Rick Reilly doesn’t know, either – he’s making an ass of himself yet again. How do you cover a tournament for 25+ years and not understand how things work and don’t work ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Beats me..
Bobby Jones once said, "you have to play the Old course more than once to understand how good it really is " Sadly, Ryan and a few others in his trade, don’t understand that. If you watch Ken Browns interview with Seve about his win in ’84 says it all .
I'll try to find some way to get it to you
Can’t understand why it should be restricted. Will Tweet Ken Brown & ask him why/release.
I'm calling in to Ryans Radio program
I’m gonna say I’m Stub or Niblic . hahahaha

Hey, do it...
just make sure the questions don’t make any sense….:-)….STUB
Tiger just backed off of a shot in the 4th fairway because of the wind.

There’s a rumor swirling (har har) that they may suspend again.

Surely if the winds were 70 mph we'd all agree they should stop play.
It’s all a matter of degree.
If your ball can’t sit still on the green, it’s not golf but roller derby.
Fascinating breakdown from Monty
That was a great segment with Monty and Tirico explaining the wind and how things get clogged up in The Loop.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
At 12:12 EST they just said "the balls are still oscillating on the greens."
Never been a fan of oscillating.
(Absolutely no pun intended. Hate the damn things.)
What a finish from Watson – an inch from an eagle.
I would love to have a print of Watson on the tee at 18 with the R&A building all lit up down range. It looked like it was glowing.
What a shame that Watson had to go out with an interview with Tom Rinaldi.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I doubt it easing.
For quite a while there today I thought I was listening to the Golf Channel broadcasters with all the groveling and drooling over tigers every shot. Tiger makes a shot into the 14th to 35 ft and the announcers say, “What a Fantastic shot” Someone else hits from the same spot and gets it to 22ft and the announcers say, " Not bad from there, but I think he was rather lucky to have the wind help with it" What a bunch over over-hyped crap groveling on about tiger all day. They need to give the other guys credit where credit is due.
