The Phantom Ace and Scandinavian People

PrintJust a few minutes ago, the Open Championship leaderboard had Swede Peter Hanson at -7 and threatening to take on Rory McIlroy's 63, or even better. They had Hanson making a one at the par 4 16th - a 423 yard hole. Not impossible, but surely not likely. And then the R&A realized their mistake that Hanson had not even finished the hole yet and took it down.
Same thing happened last weekend to Norwegian Suzann Pettersen at Oakmont. In the final round, the USGA scoreboards were ablaze with reports of a Pettersen ace at the lengthy par 3 8th hole. Standing on the 10th green when that reportedly happened, I heard no roar whatsoever much less a "OMG-hole-in-one-on-the-longest-par-3-in-women's-history" roar. Then the USGA took it down.
What's with Nordic people and the phantom ace?

Not if you read the words as they are written. It’s coincidence – human interest – fluff – fun…but not something that happened because they are Nordic.

I have Court's welfare at heart
The stiff upper lip would appear mandatory when listening to the US golf commentary. Also I am member of the RSPB (Royal Soceity for the Protection of |Bears/um Birds). What with Mel Gibson/Charlie Sheen rants, don’t want Court done for anti-US commentators diatribes.

(by the way – has anybody over there bothered to point out that the latest Mel Gibson jewel was a recorded private conversation – not intended for the public, and that nobody plays her part of he conversation before he flew off the handle ? She had to say something to provoke the guy in order to get that audio. She’s looking to cash in. He may be a jerk – but she’s a golddigger)

is perfectly reasonable too. What do you mean “over there” – I read it on US websites. Provocation or not (& I suspect you’re right) he’s an idiot to threaten physical violence and use racial slurs.

I would like to point out the the PGA Tour website leaderboard has Mr. Cink at -1. I would like to point out that I saw him make par on 18 not a bogey. Thank you.
