Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Watson: "How Many Majors Did Johnny Win?"

One of the hot topics in the Lexus tent at the US Open was the remark made by Johnny Miller early in the week that the younger players today play "chicken golf," and that was an emulation of Jack Nicklaus' style.  In an interview with Tom Watson, the '82 Open winner at Pebble was asked about Miller's remark.

(Yes, I'm aware of the hilarious statements that refer to YouTube and "real reporters," and that they were looking at me with a video camera and a big bright Media badge as I was doing it.)

The other video after the jump is of Watson talking about the differences in how players prepare today as compared to Watson's era.  This one has a good zinger in it, as well.

That first one is hilarious. Miller should be forced to watch that over and over and over again before a broadcast. Kind of like the slave riding with the conquering Roman general whispering “remember, you are mortal” in his ear over and over.

Two dogs and a salad – that’s great ! Watson’s right – these guys have bought into all the modern mess. The greats from 30 or more years ago had to dig the answers to their swing problems out of the dirt.

I don’t know if you heard Watson talking to Michael Breed on his show before the Open – Breed asked Watson how he hit that chip shot at 17 in 1982, and how people today can learn it. He said tthree things – find your balance, and find he bottom of your swing arc for that shot, then put the ball slightly behind the bottom of the arc so you hit down on the ball. Breed wanted some magic formula and Watson gave him the key and said “go practice it on your own.”

"this ball will fit in that fairway"

And it was ironic for Miller to connect Jack with "chicken golf,"

since Johnny won a poultry amount of majors.

I sincerely apologize for the above groaner.

I’ll send all who read that a sleeve of Perdues.

jeez, I can't even get my digital camera to work!

Monday morning at Locust Hill I finally notice that 1 of my girls (most likely imoto) left the camera on since whenever. Didn’t even bother to take our video camera, because none of us can figure out how to download the videos we’ve already taken off it…. This isn’t rocket science. Well, maybe it is to me. I bow to your technological savvy.
